Ayan Mukerji's next, an ambitious superhero trilogy featuring Ranbir Kapoor as 'The Dragon' who shoots fiery flames from his palms, has an inspiration in the new anti-hero on the block, 'Deadpool'.
The director caught the Ryan Reynolds-starrer at a private screening organised by the film's makers in suburban Mumbai on Monday evening. But unlike the rest of the Indian audience that drove to theatres in hordes to catch this year's first superhero flick, making it a box-office success, Ayan enjoyed the uncensored version in all its foul-mouthed, full frontal glory.
"Ayan had put in a request a week ago for a private screening of the uncut version. He has been scripting his own superhero film and was keen to watch Deadpool," reveals a source from the production house.
The 32-year-old filmmaker is fashioning Ranbir's character after a dark anti-hero plagued by his emotions and a growing disdain for things around him, much like 'Deadpool'. The character's dialogues are wicked and naughty. "But Ayan's story won't follow a crusader trying to change the world," the source adds.
The film is the first of three projects that the director plans to release over the next 10 years. His directorial debut in 2009, 'Wake Up Sid,' and the successful follow-up, 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' four years later, both featured Ranbir, with whom he shares a close friendship in real life. Their third film together will roll after Ranbir wraps up work on Rajkumar Hirani's Sanjay Dutt biopic by the year-end.
