Comb & Compile

They were hissing at each other Monday morning when Ranjan came down for his coffee

"I am not ASKING you to take her. I am TELLING you" she hissed

"You asked me to keep Tuesdays open I HAVE. If you need Mondays you shud have told me ahead" he grit his teeth

"I get it, I get it... the world cannot be changed, everything will be put on hold if you dont fund it" she hissed

"II Ive FORWARDED four f**king emails from Pascale, you know where I am at" he hissed

"Umm... let me see ... UMM ya, beneath this whole facade of UNCARING INDIFFERENCE, I am DEEPLY devastated at what pascale is doing to Argent" she scoffed

"Seriously?" he raised his voice

Mahavir ran out as fast as he could taking two help behind him for back up

"Sudhrogey nahi na dono?" Ranjan thundered

" I SAID I was OK, I asked him to take her to a "Coding for Kids" Lab in Maharani Bagh after
school he said he cant do it Mondays, he can only give his daughter TUESDAYS Dad, how DARE Modern School expect a MONDAY after school activity" II declared to Ranjan

"MAIN chala jata hoon betaa" Ranjan pleaded

"AAP chaley jaogey to Sahana ko kaun sambhalega? Jenny is off this week, aadhe ghante mein Mahavir ko  dar lagna shuru ho jaata hai, itne khatarnak bache hain hamare"
Ranjan tried to smiled

"I AM SORRY I EVEN ASKED, u are off the hook" II warned R&B

"Not unless you tell me who is bringing the boys home

"Since you dont give a damn beyond Pascale, I THINK they shud be at Rohini until I AM ready to go get them" she said gleefully

He looked like he would punch her in the gut

"The WHOLE week?" he asked furiously

"The whole fu-- umm.. week" she squirmed when she noted Ranjan was watching

Ranjan moaned walking away

II fixed Nivi's breakfast, braided her hair with a comb stuck in her own hair she searched the entire ground floor for the comb

R&B ate smugly without telling her the comb was stuck in her hair
Nivi READ A BOOK
Mavvy told her "Bhabhiji kangi baal mein hai"

She got Nivi ready, fed Sahana one last time before heading to work

She HATED leaving the youngest at home
She cried almost everyday

When they liked to linger after feeding, she hated to peel them off and go off to work
She wasnt half as maternal as Akka, or so she had told herself... until she had these delightful lil creatures

He drove Nivi to school

"Will u and Amma be fighting tonight?" she asked softly from the back

He had to half smile on that one

"Umm no... I dont think so"


Nivi was quiet...

"Nivi... he called out

She looked at him through the rear view as he circled Tughlaq Rd

"Adult relationships are complicated" he said softly
Nivi nodded all knowingly

"Amma and I sometimes do this because we have ... ummm.. u know... we are responsible for many things..." he tried to find words

Nivi nodded

"We have you guys, jobs, and home and Dadu..." he said

"And Thatha Paati" Nivi reminded

"Oh YA" "them... or HIM" R&B lowered his gaze cynically lest Nivi catch his expression

"Do u miss Sid and Ved?" she asked

He nodded

She was OVERJOYED
Like she had held that secret painfully the couple days so that her Amma wouldnt be hurt

"I miss how Ved always keeps talking only" Nivi did a wave of her tiny hand, just like II
He noticed...

"Its OK to miss them" he reassured

She leaned back and exhaled

"I thought when I wake up this morning they will be here" she said enthusiastically

He nodded, turning towards Kasturba Gandhi Marg

"Thatha likes them a LOT" she suddenly went on the defensive to protect her Amma

He didnt respond to that one... cautious


Well knew KNEW Mr Iyer adored them, but the fact that they adored him back got his goat

He dropped her off at a drive through area, she got down but not before reaching out front and hugging him TIGHTLY

"Dont tell Amma I miss Sid and Ved" "OK Bye" she whispered in his ear
He kissed her cheek with his stubbly face

She turned and looked at him shyly, rubbing her cheek. "U are always poky"  she said
He chuckled

She reminded him of II in all her expressions

Every time he ambushed her for kissing she looked at him accusingly later
Soothing her cheeks on his BR tee later
Dabbing her face on it...

"Have fun at Coding for kids alright?" he extracted a promise

She smiled as her eyes lit up "I am going to make it work today" she nodded

"Compile it?" "U mean?" he coached softly

"Compile it" she said sliding off

He watched Gregor Chopra wait faithfully a few feet away, the kid stiffened upon being spotted
R&B's smile froze😳


He drove home to find her gone to work
Sahana waited for him in the front patio

Dressed to kill in a frilly sea green polka dot dress
Ranjan and her on the swing, he fed her cheerios...

"Are the twins home?" he asked

" Mauj kar rahe honge" Ranjan said harmlessly, smiling, as he shook his head

All future updates are fun to read. 

R&B, not fair. Not fair. Bichari II. He saw the comb but still didn't tell her. Badla.
So the problem is not that Appa loves his kids. The problem is his kids love and are fond of AppA. Insecure R&B.
