When he went up she lay curled on her side a hand over the baby. The baby cooed and waved her fists
She made bigg sounds
She leaned over and kissed the cheek softly her gold chain and pendants dangling over the curious baby's face
She tried to grab it unsuccessfully
II smiled softly
And bend down again to check if Nivi liked her sparkling diamond nose ring
She was, she placed her ring on Nivi's lips
The mouth opened as the pink tongue darted out to grab it
"U ARE SOOO CUTE" II whispered
And picked her up and crushed her, the baby lay face down on her bosom
Her face smothered between II's curves
II picked her up and placed her chubby face on hers, the baby cooed and sucked and cooed, gurgling with joy, like she KNEW this was the one she most loved
"How much hair do u have?" II whispered, giving the lil one finger kangi
"Daddy kuduthala kozhandaikki, cute hair?" (did ur Dad give u such lovely hair?)
Hearing her voice louder she cooed back loudly
II crushed her
"Amma is not like Athai or Periamma" she whispered
She kissed her cheek and squeezed the lil one
"do u want to stay the night?" he appeared
"Tumhe jaana hai ghar?" "Dad yahi so gaye?" she asked
He nodded sitting by her
"Manya chali gayin?" she asked
"And Jenny and Mahavir" he chuckled
"He mocks... or he is quiet" II whispered to Nivi
Nivi was going beserk squirming
He turned and picked her up
Holding her vertically
Kissing her cheek firmly
The face cringed
"Look at u... u are merciless" II scolded
He held his daughter like she was a new born
"She feels chunky" he whispered
"Aise nahi keh sakte..." she whispered
"Do u believe in all that?" he asked amused
II nodded somberly
"Shes beautiful II" he said
"She has ur hair" II transferred credit
He leaned and attempted to kiss her
She slithered, akwardly
He pursued with an intense look as he held Nivi
"Shes awake" II ordered
He threw his head back and laughed, as if Nivi was 6 years old and curious
"Do u want to hold her?" she whispered
He half smiled and crept forward
She lay plastered on the bed, he gently placed his daughter on her other side
II turned to grab the tiny fist, he pinned her and bend down
"Its only THREE weeks and I OFFICIALLY have SIX" she shrieked
He was pleasantly surprised to find a combative wife
"So she was buried some where in there?"
Sigh!
"Oh! how I missed that dismissive tone" he groaned, opening his mouth on her neck
Her chest felt firm and way heavier than before
"Well whatever it is u want... u are going to not want it when" she protested as her cries muffled
"I am just a leaky sweaty mess" she whispered
He kissed her like he hadnt kissed her in a year, hungry and demanding
She felt his tongue on her teeth and the insides of her lower lip
She arched stretching
His hand roved under the tee Sam had given her to wear for the night
He groaned when she found she was nude underneath
"Too baddd!! Get over it... I am probably too "big" to wear those lacy things again" she said cynicall
He found the peak and rubbed.. she convulsed and fell on the bed dragging him with her
"Who said three weeks was too soon?" he whispered nipping her lobe as he chuckled
"RAKSHASANEY" she cursed... they tussled trying to leave the baby alone
After a good amount of necking and kissing and kicking and tonguing they lay groaning
"Go home?" he whispered to aroused to just let it go
"Yahi sotey hain" she whispered
He cuddled her as she fell asleep on him

When she went to D II at 2 ish the next day May 9th around the time Amma returns from school
Athai was home
R&B dropped her off at home and took off without coming in
Appa was at work
She went and showed the baby to Periappa and lay down to take a nap
Athai looked OK but appeared tense
II wondered if Athimber, her husband, i.e., was pissed, that she had chosen to visit D II abandoning her newly employed daughter Lakshmi at Janakpuri
II realized how lucky she was, her in laws placed no demands on her, her personal feelings of inadequacy were HER OWN
They had in no way encouraged or caused it
She had never explored this aspect of Akka's motherhood all these years
Akka had made everything seem so easy, she called Akka for the third time since morning... she wouldnt answer so she left a text 'Why wont u talk with me?" she asked
Amma would talk about her coworkers' daughters or DILs being diagnosed Appa would dismiss it as "Rich people vyaadi" (ailment)
II wondered if Appa was right, if she had married middle class would she have cared about being "uncared for?"
Did Akka feel uncared for?
How did she deal with it?
She stayed at D II for three months for both babies, Amma was gone all day... Selvi was home for the second one whenever she could be
II was home whenever she could be for Shravu
She called Akka again, she didnt answer
Did Akka worry about not being able to "achieve her professional dreams"

Athai brought coffee as II sat on the divan looking at some old Carnatic music notebooks belonging to her
Amma was moving stuff around in the third bedroom book shelves
She searched the pile on the divan for notebooks from 2004, when Shravu was born, she couldnt find August, but found a November notebook
She had doodled a stick figure baby with diaper and curly hair
She smiled... feeling the artwork
She had writtedn SHRAVAN very artistically every 4 or 5 pages...
NO WONDER AMMA SCOLDED YOU WHEN THE JATHI WAS ALL SCREWED UP
LOOK AT YOU, DOODLING?
UMM.. WELL AT THAT TIME, I WAS TAKING THE CLASS WITH THAT OTHER GIRL AND WHEN EVER THE TEACHER SPOKE TO HER
I WAS FREE
Nivi stirred on II's bed
Amma returned from work, washed her hands and wiped on her cotton pallu, and came to pick up the baby ALL SMILES
"Ennachu Ma?" II asked worried
Amma sat down
"U JUST came..." Amma said
"WHAT happened.. Athai aathla edaanu prachanaya?" (is Janaki Athai troubled?)
"Mukund showed up at Vandu's this morning claiming to be engaged to a Brigadier, I mean his Commandant's daughter" Amma said
"OH SHIT" II clamped a hand over her mouth...
"Bala has gone to Ambala, Manni (Ambala Anna's wife) has had a nervous breakdown" Amma whispered, lest teh nurse hear such a scandalous news
