Just came back, and I'm still reeling from NEERJA...truly a special, emotional film.

From the movie, I gathered Neerja was a sweet, chulbuli girl, who had faced a bad marriage, but was still bubbly and hard-working, extremely professional, and a good daughter and friend/colleague. She loves Rajesh Khanna movies, quotes filmy dialogues and the limited family screentime we get, the impression is that she was a very normal middle-class girl. Its this build-up of her back-story and her demeanour in the flight is what really made me riveted. I give the credit to the screenwriter and director for keeping me engaged throughout (though I guess the 2nd half could be a little crisper).

Contrasting from the backstory, the real, gritty and scary experience of a 3rd party view into a plane hijack is no less of a nightmare. The camera angles/shots are well shot, giving the feeling that the audience is in the plane with these passengers, trapped with the hijackers.

Coming to the performances - I was quite impressed with Sonam's performance. It was truly heartfelt, and my heart went out to her in the climax. I wondered, while watching the trailer, if Sonam would do justice to Neerja Bhanot, and I'm happy to say that she more than surpassed my expectations. She shows the anguish, vulnerability and intelligence of Neerja well. 👍🏼 A special mention to Shabana Azmi, Shekhar (Neerja's boyfriend) and Neerja's father as well, for playing the supporting roles well.

The movie is not flawless - there are a couple of scenes that feel forced, and the first half feels a little slow, as does the pre-climax, but the pros outweigh the cons greatly. It brings to light Neerja Bhanot, a girl who was extraordinarily brave and courageous. 👏 The Rajesh Khanna dialogue that Sonam echoes in the first half, 'Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahin', is so very apt for this film. 😊

Just saw the film of the year.. #Neerja.. It was a bad idea to watch it with Tabu tho.. She finished all my tissues.. 😆 😃

After listening from critics tat women will love #Neerja more, I can say tat many ppl still don't consider girl equal to son. It's Not fair.
