If yesterday's episode raised the very important question of is it right to sacrifice the Ashwa used in the ashwamedha yagya, today's episode very clearly answered it through very thought provoking discussions with Jabali and Kaushalya.
Rama chose very interesting partners for his discussion -
his guru, who told him last night about the need to follow rituals and their significance - also they are a part of our identity as a society
Second partner was surprisingly Jabali - the rebel - the man who had the absolutely opposing view to guru Vashihstha
The man who considers these rituals a proof of man's cruelty and callousness
He infact goes on to question God, for permitting such cruelty in his/her name.
His third partner in this debate was his Kaushalya ma ... Very surprising choice ...
Kekeyi ma has a conflict regards to him, and so is not impartial in her views
Sumitra ma sees Ishwar in him, so is overwhelmed by him, she will also not feel worthy to advice him
Rama with his ability to see into the hearts of others senses this
Kaushalya ma is the only one, who will help him to make a decision
So his probing questions to her, help her to see his dilemma - and with her support is able to decide
how to follow the ritual ( guru ka maan, and kul ki reet) by using a symbolic horse made of gold
( parivar ki pratishtha - for him even a mitti ka horse would've sufficed,
but his mothers wish was to use a golden horse)
And thus saving the horse - proving to Jabali once again, the world is not a cruel place and that
There is respect for life!
The highlights of the episode were of course
Rama's words of wisdom
When he wishes the horse, he does it like a dear friend and he wishes not for victory for his dynasty,
for that would've meant defeat for others, he wishes for victory of peace and harmony
When he talks to Jabali - his parting words were - we can't leave everything to God!
His message that we have to have our own convictions of what is right and act upon them ...
Was indeed very significant
But of course most beautiful was Kaushalya Rama conversation - see with what chaturai he uses her own answers to propose the alternative
When we can't see God, we see His image in an idol - and Rama replies, why can't we also use an image of the horse for sacrifice
Rama has the quality to look for solutions where everyone wins.
We saw his sensitive roop, we saw his bravery and today we also saw him as a thinker and a philosopher
While I loved Rama and Jabali conversation, my absolute favourite was Rama Kaushalya convo, for the simple way in which he found a way out...
I rate this episode among the best in this show...
