The correct term would be a courtesan. Women who danced at royal durbars were called courtesans.
Mastani was supposedly a princess, King Chhatrasal's daughter, she had training in poetry, dancing, warrior skills, thats all recorded.
But why would a princess dance at Bajirao Peshwa's court like a common courtesan, that is the question? ð Was she already gifted to Bajirao by Chhatrasal so she was performing a dance for him? Was she already married to him? If married, why would a Peshwa's wife dance in the durbar?
There is no logic to this...maybe the movie will reveal the reason why she is shown dancing at Peshwa's court.
