HI dears!π
Chapter 8 part 1You can't blame wind for grasping sunshine, they belong together after all...
Two weeks later from the 7th chapter
'Arohi?' Arjun said once more, this time a little loudly. Through the smoke that burned in his eyes, he could see her figure moving in the blur. She did not seemed to have heard him.
'Are you trying to set the house ablaze?'
He said again, feeling his way inside the kitchen when she suddenly stood up an inch from him, she had been kneeling under the kitchen counter a moment ago.
something on the stove was heavily smoking, making their vision hazy this its grayness. Arohi shook her head at his astonished expression and turned around muttering under her breath. Arjun held her shoulders, so that he won't lose her once more in the smoke and made her face him.
'What are you doing?'
'Cooking,' she said seriously.
'I thought this was some kind of a firework display,' Arjun raised his eyebrows. 'Arranged for my birthday especially,'
'Oh come on Arjun, it was your mom's recipe!'Arohi pointed out.
'Can't be,' Arjun said seriously. 'If it were, I wouldn't be celebrating this birthday,'
Arohi snorted.
'This is why they say guys never understand affectionate gestures,' she said shaking her head once more and starting to walk away. Arjun caught her elbow just in time.
'Wait, this was a gesture of what?'
Arohi rolled her eyes at him.
'Now Mr. Rock star has dedicated his very special day for me, I should do something in return shouldn't I?'
Arjun watched her for a moment. She seemed different from her past few days behavior he thought with a sigh. Perhaps she was seeing what he mean about waiting. Perhaps she was giving them a chance. He smiled inwardly at the thought. This was going to be his best birthday although he had decided against going out to celebrate it. In their home, with Arohi was his best idea of celebration, that was only if Arohi doesn't call the fire department sooner.
Meanwhile Arohi was trying to grab his attention. She wanted everything to be normal for today, without the usual complicated equations between them, she wanted a simple day spent by two best friends. Even though she hadn't forgotten what Arjun said about giving them a chance she wanted to find their old selves first. And Arjun was staring at her unfocused, This wasn't going to help.
Watching his goofy expression she had a sudden idea.
Grabbing the bottle of whipped cream with the nozzle, she squashed it, straight at his face.
'What the...' Arjun groaned as Arohi rolled with laughter.
'You were asking for that!' She giggled.
'You're finished peanut!' Ajrun said in a determined tone as he picked up the chocolate sauce. Arohi who had seen that coming ran away before he could catch her. But it was her own fault that the kitchen was a mess. She tripped against some thing in the smoky blur and Arjun caught her trapping her against the kitchen counter.
'I like chocolate coated peanuts,' he said wickedly as Arohi struggled against him.
'No, No Arjun, It'll spoil my hair!'
'SHould have thought before messing with me,'
He chuckled darkly as he poured the entire chocolate sauce over her head and Arohi whined. In their playful banter they had forgotten the stove and whatever was in it. It was too late to remember, as with a boom the pot exploded melting them with pieces of warm potatoes and other unrecognizable food items.
Both ducked away from further damage and still crouching under the small table looked at each other. With their supposed lunch dripping from their heads they looked like comic characters. There was a pause and then Arohi let out a snort of laughter.
Arjun joined in and soon she was literally rolling on the floor laughing. Arjun watched her, she had not laughed like that in months. In that moment she almost looked healed, almost her old self, almost the Arohi whom he had fallen for.
She sat up after a moment, wiping her eyes.
'Well,' said Arjun. 'That hazardous lunch went exactly where it deserved,' Arohi noded.
'It's tasty thought,'
'Arohi don't taste your own hair,' he made a repulsive sound and stood up stretching his hand for her. 'I'm going to have a word with mom about the recipes she hands you.'
'Oh Arjun seriously don't. I need to learn to cook.'
'Peanut you can cook whenever I want my house repaired. Otherwise lets leave it.'
Arohi took his hand and helped herself to her feet.
'You know choti maa was always praying for me to get a husband who say that. Since she knows I can't...'
'Well at least god listens to her,'
Arjun said befoer arohi would work out what exactly she had blurted out.
'We look like food ourselves,' Arohi said looking down at herself.
She went way leaving him assessing his own situation to clean herself up. Arjun watched after her for a moment and then looked around.
The kitchen lay in almost ruins. He sighed. It was worth her smile after all. That was when his mobile vibrated.
'Yes Rishi? I remember telling you not to call me today, whats up?'
He heard Rishi sigh.
'I don't think we'll be working with Aditya Veer Singh for a long time.' Rishi said.
'Why?'
'Arjun I really don't like spoiling your mood but you need to know this,'
'Know what?'
'He's playing us,'
'Can you explain, I don't have time for riddles.
'Arjun, his son, I met him today and you won't believe...Oh shit!'
There was a screeching sound and the phone disconnected. Arjun rolled his eyes at the screen. He knew Rishi better. There wasn't any of his birthdays when Rishi had given up playing a prank on him. He was sure this was one of the kind. Shaking his head at Rishi's weakening humour, he went to his room.
As he opened the door, he heard Arohi's voice but not form the adjoining room but from his own bathroom.
'What are you doing in here?'
'Something's wrong with my shower,' Arohi said casually.
'And what, you want me to wait until your lunch drys up on my face?'
Her laughter was merged with the sound of running water.
'Enjoy yourself,' she chuckled.
*
she deliberately delayed coming out in hope of irritating him further, and then she remembered the dangerous truth. She would have to walk out in a bathrobe, and Arjun would surely be outside.
'Are you coming out or not?'
'No,' she chocked.
'Peanut come on!' He sounded annoyed. Well he didn't know her problem.
'You go. I'll come later.'
Arjun rolled his eyes.
'Do you think I'll walk out with my face resembling a saucepan? Dream on!'
'Arjun please...'
'No,' He had his stubborn tone on, which meant he would not listen to anything she might say. Arohi sighed. Idiot!
Frustrated with herself for creating such situations she unbolted the door.
