Why Salman is asking to be punished as a normal citizen and not actor is because there have been cases, and there are everyday cases in which normal citizen get away within couple years of term.
I have experienced a 2nd degree murder case from start to end, he was freed within months.

10 years is a bit too much. Fine, he used being human. but he evolved over the years, he changed into a better man. In return he faced so many hardships in life, just because he is an actor, doesn't mean his life is easy as 1-2-3. Nobody life is easy.  Whether it was for show, he has helped thousands, he has always helped others, he hardly thought about himself. How much can you fake your life? How can anyone of us say that all he has done (charity, helping, donating his bone marrow etc) was all for show? REALLY? How much can one person fake his life?

Salman knew he was guilty for the start, but he was too scared to go to jail. But he knew he was guilty. He never got married. because he knew, one day or the other he will end up in jail. So he started correcting his mistakes, he started to become a better person ...everybody deserves a second chance..   why not Salman? Is he a happy man in life? No he is NOT..and that's a punishment.

Just because I support Salman or anyone else, doesn't mean we don't feel for the victims. We do. One person died, it's sad. Now what? Salman going to jail will help the remaining victims ...HOW? Instead, Salman should be given the responsibility to take care of these victims for the rest of his life. Wouldn't that make more sense?

How is Salman's 10  year jail going to render justice to the victims in anyyyway?   No wonder the victims are giving interviews asking for compensation.

3 years jail maximum + compensation.

I think it also matters what sections they've been tried under/convicted under. Salman got a fresh charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder last year which is punishable for upto 10 years. At some point Sallu was tried under rash driving which was only 2 years.

Why and how did Salman's case came under homicide from rash driving all of the sudden last year after all these years?

He still has the High Court and Supreme Court's doors to knock and drag the case.. Even though Pareira (the case quoted in his verdict) was given his guilty verdict within a year by both Sessions Court and High Court, after some time he did get bail while the case was pending in the Supreme Court for 5 years..
With that kind of timeline for him, imagine how much time Bhai can waste.. Another 12 years for High Court's verdict and 60 years for Supreme Court..
