I keep going for movie every couple weeks and I've written a review in the threads, but never actually made a new post to write a review for a film. This is just my personal take and I'm biased, cause I loved it.
The male lead was no Ranbir Kapoor, no Shah Rukh Khan, Salman, Aamir or Akshay, it was the 64 year old, Paresh Rawal. This is probably one of the BEST days of my life, for having gone ahead to watch this movie.
It was Saturday and my friend and I, finally decided to catch up on a movie. We had been debating what movie to watch as none of the movies looked interesting enough to watch. While I opted for Dharam Sankat Mein my friend opted for Ek Paheli Leela. Purely trusting our intuitions, due to the experienced and talented cast line up like Paresh Rawal, Nasserudin Shah and Annu Kapoor, we finally decided to go for Dharam Sankat Mein and we couldn't have been more happier, having chosen that!
The movie just hit the right chords with the audience and the theatre was house full! We never expected that.š² It is usually always empty when we go.
I know people flock to watch films which have hot & happening actors and songs, but I would want to recommend everyone on the Bollywood forum, who wish to watch quality entertainment, to go for Dharam Sankat Mein!
It is such a SIMPLE, also hilarious yet beautiful film !
What worked for me in this film ?
The theme - Unexpected, intriguing, suprising and endearing at the same time!
This man is a hindu Brahmin, who is in his 60s with a family and two grown up children. He loathes Islam and muslims, to the extent he doesn't employ them in his Company and bickers everyday with his Muslim neighbour (Annu Kapoor). What happens, if after 60 + years of your life and after your late Mother's death, you discover that you were never her child and were adopted ? And the greatest revelation hits you, when you discover, your biological parents and you were born into the same family and religion you loathed till now and gave a hard time to the people of the same ?
He discovers he was born to Muslim parents, but was brought up in a hindu Brahmin family. He discovers his biological father is still alive and he never abandoned him, but infact was a very nice man who lost his son due to a relative he trusted him with for a brief while ? He discovers that his biological father was a very nice man and lost his wife and Dharampal (Paresh's mother) when he was born and had to leave to Kuwait for a brief while to earn for his son and old parents. He comes back to find his son, gone from him never to be discovered.
Dharampal now is in the quest to discover his sick and heartbroken father, who never married again with the trauma of losing his wife and child. Will they ever really meet or will he pass away, by the time his son finds him ? This film shows how religion keeps a father and son from meeting and it's so beautiful, the simplicity with which it is picturized.
The movie was ofcourse hilarious, hilarious whenever it had to be, but hats off to Paresh Rawal and especially Annu Kapoor ! Annu Kapoor was SPLENDID !! The Theatre was rambling in laughter and I laughed at places till my stomach had cramps and my friend laughed till she got teary from the pain. But the sad moments, was just as touching!
This movie proved to me, that a good film and a thorough entertainer, needs no Ranbir Kapoor, Imraan Khan, Ranveer Singh, Shahrukh, Salman or Akshay kumar ! Let the commercial film and film stars be ! This movie was splendid and the best I've watched in years, which made me feel, Iam NOT being fooled as audience to help some actor get to the 100 crore club, but to be entertained and grasp a beautiful message from the film. Paresh Rawal stole the show, along with Annu Kapoor!
I really hope movies like this and actors like this are encouraged, simply because of the simplicity, talent and entertainment value! I hope this movie becomes a HUGE hit. Please go and watch this one!
