Maybe my father will find a girl for me by year end: Shashank Vyas, TV star, Balika Vadhu, interview
Shashank Vyas who plays Jagya in Balika Vadhu, is down-to-earth actor who wants to give his wife all the happiness in the world.
Please describe the girl you would like to marry
As I'm simple, I'm looking for a sweet and simple girl. I would like her to be like my mother who happily did housework and maintained good relations with relatives. Ideally she must be pretty, nice, chirpy and my close friend with whom I can have long and enjoyable conversations.
As I am a foodie, it is a bonus if she can cook well. I am open to marrying a working woman or homemaker; actress or a non-actress. As I have erratic and long work schedules, my wife needs to be okay with that.
For how many more years would you like to remain single?
My father is asking me the same question (laughs). After all, after my mom's demise and sister's marriage, our house has no lady. He is already looking for a bride for me whereas I am taking my own time to find a partner.
I am open to both an arranged or a love marriage. I think that through either ways, I may be able to find a girl with whom I can emotionally connect with. I don't think I have to be very affluent and have an expensive car or a large house to marry. It is enough if I have a small house, ordinary car and some savings so that I can adequately financially provide for my wife. Who knows, maybe my father will find a girl for me by year end.
Balika Vadhu has an anti-child marriage message. What are your views on child marriage?
I can't find any valid reason which supports child marriage. Children don't have physical or emotional maturity. One should marry after reaching adult hood.
What do you think are the pros and cons of remaining single?
As a single guy, I am not accountable to anyone and can hang out with my friends after work. After marriage, it would be nice to return home right after work and take responsibility of someone. With my spouse I will freely be able to discuss my problems as she will be a family member.
In Balika Vadhu, which moment between Anandi and Jagya has been the most romantic moment?
I cherish the moment when Jagya is working in the fields, Anandi brings lunch for him and they enjoy the meal together. Another time, when Jagya returns to his hometown during Holi, Anandi throws coloured water onto his face.
How would you define love'?
It is a very spiritual feeling. Love should be unconditional, unselfish and free flowing.
Do you like to watch romantic films and read romantic novels?
I don't get the time to read. I love romantic movies like Titanic, One Day, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and and Rajesh Khanna's romantic films.
