yeah agree with you. I looks so peaceful, I would love to go visit there.
this serial so far is set in banaras. i think most of the settings have been in very specific spots, like the river scenes are mostly around one or two ghats (there are a lot of them). in the old days, rich people used to build homes by the river, so there are many mahal-type buildings, but there are ordinary looking buildings and newer structures also by some ghats. it depends on the ghat, since each of them serve different functions (bathing, worshiping, laundry, cremation, etc.). when they show the inside of the thakur's mahal, i think that's shot in ramnagar palace (it was mentioned in one of the articles that some of the shooting was at ramnagar fort, where the maharaja of banaras lives), which is not in the city of banaras itself but nearby in a town called ramnagar.
for lifestyle, it's all pretty relative in that banaras is a city with a very large population, but i think the lifestyle is definitely much more traditional, so it is not at all like mumbai or delhi. i have heard that some parts of the city are beginning to get built up, especially for tourists and foreigners, with new bridges, hotels and such, so i'm sure it won't be long before there is a growth boom and banaras also changes. i personally think it will be sad if that happens since it will lose it's unique character, but then i'm sure banaras must have changed a great deal over the centuries since it has survived for so long (it is considered to be the world's oldest LIVING city, meaning it has continuously had people living there since very ancient times).
i could go on and on about banaras, but i don't want to bore all of you. by the way, i have never actually lived in banaras, but i have visited it many times and it has a special place in my heart.
sry never being to. but it is a sacred pls
