Just watched Dacoit. It turns out to be a fairly engaging film overall, despite a few inconsistencies that hold it back from reaching its full potential. The first half is gripping and tightly paced, while the second half slows down noticeably, feeling somewhat stretched. That said, the film does offer several moments that left me impressed.
Set in a post-COVID world in 2021, the story begins with the protagonist who has been jailed for 13 years for a crime he did not commit. Over the course of its 150-minute runtime, the story unfolds in layers, gradually revealing the truth behind the fateful incident, culminating in a compelling twist.
The first half stands out for its narrative strength and execution. Several sequences are genuinely absorbing. The romantic track between Adivi Shesh and Mrunal is portrayed with sensitivity and depth, making the eventual betrayal all the more impactful. The prison break sequence is particularly well-executed, maintaining high tension and keeping viewers on edge. The film consistently introduces twists at regular intervals, with the reveal of the main antagonist coming as a genuine surprise.
However, the film is not without its flaws. Certain portions, especially the hospital sequence, feel illogical and somewhat contrived. The idea of the same hospital being robbed twice stretches believability. Additionally, the music does not leave a strong impression and occasionally detracts from the overall experience.
Performance-wise, Adivi Shesh delivers a solid and emotionally resonant act, effectively conveying the anguish of betrayal. However, it is Mrunal who truly stands out. She commands attention with both her screen presence and performance, bringing depth and conviction to her role, and ultimately emerging as the film’s biggest strength.
In conclusion, Dacoit is a decent watch with a strong first half, notable performances, and a few memorable moments, even though it falters in pacing and logic in parts.
