Financial security is crucial: Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif has been ruling the roost and topping many lists " from the hottest celebrity in 2012, to the most-searched personality and the sexiest Asian woman in the same year. However, this time, she is experiencing a different kind of a high after featuring in the top 10 list of Forbes Magazine India's Celebrity 100 list.

At number nine with Rs. 63.75 crore earnings in the past year, she is the only female actor on the list. We talk to her about importance of money, her expenditures and investments.

What does money mean to you?

Coming from a family that never had that kind of money, initially, it was important. Financial security is crucial for your family and I have a large family. Money does matter when you don't have it. When you need it, you realise the value of it. In that sense, money will always have value

Have you ever stopped yourself from buying anything because it was too expensive?

I'm not a big spender or shopper. Neither am I extravagant nor do I have big expenses. I mainly spend on travel. I don't buy overpriced clothes as I feel such expenses are unnecessary. I probably wouldn't buy expensive watches or jewellery either.

. You have stylists for work-related attire. What do you personally shop for?

Personally, I'm a simple dresser. I usually buy my own clothes. Jeans, T-shirts, summer dresses and track pants. Whenever I get the time or see a shop that catches my fancy, I buy something.

What does power mean to you?

The luxury to be able to have choices " whether it's selecting your work, the ads or the shows you want to be part of or choosing what to do in life. It also means having people listen to you and your voice having an impact.

With so much competition, does it matter to you which heroine is making how much for which ad, film or show?

I've no idea how much any of the other actresses get paid for their movies or their stage shows. There's competition in every field and that's healthy. It makes you work harder and be your best. Competition, not in terms of money or number of projects, but in the quality of your work, is very healthy.

Where do you think women should invest their money?

In property. I don't really do that but I should. I would like to.

Oh give her a break! She works hard I doubt she needs money from the Kapoors... She did ditch Salman who has more money than the Kapoors, So it's not about the money!
