Kunti accepts but says that this time Madri will bear the children and not she. This was because Madri sort of emotionally blackmailed her ( according to the episode)

another is the counting - when kunti says that she has already been with 4 men and to be witha 5th would make her a prostitute, does she count her husband too??
if yes, then she's already been with 5- surya,yama,indra,vayu and pandu!
if pandu is not counted, shouldnt pandu have asked her who is the fourth one??

Pandu's kuldevta was Chandra - Chandra/Tara's son was Budh, Budh/Ila's son was Pururavas, Pururava/Urvashi's son was Ayush, Ayush/Indumati's son was Nahusha, Nahusha's son was Yayati and down it went.

Yeah, it's surprising that Pandu didn't ask her who the 4th one was. But he was also under pressure from Madri to ask Kunti for a son, so he probably didn't force the issue, thinking that Madri could give him what Kunti didn't want to. And no, it does not count her husband - that was what was inaccurate about Karna's canard on Draupadi.

But the other question, which again becomes relevant to this topic - how important were Nakul/Sahadev to the Pandavas? Yudhisthir was useful for pulling them out of Yamaraj's noose @ the lake & freeing Bhima from Nahusha, Bhima was useful for killing all the Kaurava brothers & rakshashas, Arjun killed just about every Kaurava warrior that Bhima didn't. But I don't see anything that Nakul/Sahadev did that Arjun or Bhima couldn't have done.

So why did Pandu want anybody from the Ashwins? He should have asked Madri to invoke Surya & maybe Agni or Vishwakarma.

ThevAshwini twins are supposed to have powers to do with health and healing which should be useful to any warrior. Nakul-sahadev could have ben instrumental in keeping the Pndavas in goog health throughout their spells of vanavas and wars etc. Given the history of ill health in their ancestors health could have been a concern to Pandu. Besides had Pandu asked Kunti to invoke Surya devta , she may have made some excuse if a devta couldnt be called twice by that mantra.

But that's not a role Nakul or Sahadev played. For instance, after the war, Nakul was put in charge of the maintenance of the army, while Sahadev was made Yudhisthir's personal attendant. They weren't the vaids of the Pandavas.

I think as a child I remember Nakul being knew animals very well, he would choose & train horses & also a great sword warrior...
