Why most women social workers if not all remain single?

Being single makes them to take bold decisions and stick to them.

anandi wants to do social work but she wants to do within the framework of her family.

It is not possible to ride 2 horses at the same time.

Shiv maybe supportive but it has conditions apply written allover.

Social work is not a hobby to be indulged in whenever one feels like.

It is serious responsibility.

But anandi thinks otherwise nowadays.

Yes ...social work is often considered as a woman's profession !! Woman have the capability of convincing others ...in a subtle manner ...that's why most of them are considered as messiah for the society.

Whether we accept it or not ...a woman is the centre of the society...an active part of the life [a better half] of anybody's life whether it is --as a wife or a mother.A feminist like me ...man is a small spec in a womans' womb...may be an arrogant declaration ...but I firmly believe this theory. ONE HAS TO DEVOTE ONES' LIFE for the upliftment of the society...for that 'single status'--is convenient ...!!

Serious social work is not just a 9 to 5 job or part time job. Great example of social worker is
Mrs.Durgabhai Deshmukh who founded the central social welfare board. In her case she was a powerful person and her husband was also seriously involved in it. She had plenty of freedom to
Do what she wanted and she was highly educated. The wonen who are really driven must
Need such freedom and free from family entanglements.
What Anandi does is also ok. Every little bit we contribute matters. She has brought about some
Changes. She might enlighten some one who can take it up even more seriously.

If you can't feed 1000 mouths, just feed one...I admire anyone, single, married, divorced or otherwise, who chooses to help someone in need and strive for change. To say that either do this full time or go home is the excuse that most people have for never helping another human being...mere khud ke problems bahot hai, i don't have time to deal with others...

The sad part is that people who try and help are labelled mahaan, feminists, socialists, etc etc etc...they get brickbats and taunts galore...
Speaking of BV, i appreciate that they are showing people like shiv, who serves his country and fellow human beings through his job, anandi who tries to help others in need whenevr she can, sometimes even when her own family is against the idea, jagya who is dedicating his life to treating people in small village rather than career in big city and Ganga, who through her desire for personal growth has also choosen a path where by she will help people...Such characters should be applauded and appreciated...

being single is an advantage..
that doesnt mean that the one who are married cannot do social work...

there are many people doing soical work and maintaining their families side by side...

anandi may be one among them..:-)))

I agree.. iwth jan here.
Every little bit counts.

Just because Anandi is not doing full time social work does not mean her contributions are not noteworthy.
Any person who wishes to do good.. and also wishes to havea family and do it in those perimeters is in my opinion better than those who totally dedicate their lives to such cause.

I do not mean to defame or deman those who had done such ... its that I think...

To give up your life and commit to social work is not everyone's cup of tea.

But if everyone where to do what Anandi is doing, that is maintain a family, and yes take their issues into consideration and besides that try and bring about some good then I think the effect will be much more stronger.
The whole community will do little bit and do their part instead of that one dedicated person. Which again will bring about Major change.

After all with every drop forms the ocean.
little but consistent is better than LOT and just few .

imho

Its depends on nature of a person and remaining single or married is secondry.
Sometimes even if u r single yet pressure of mom dad and others can make u weak
IF u r bold enough to stick to ur desicion inspite the pressure of ur family is more important then being single or not.

In A s case , its was always showed that she is family girl and will do anything to save happiness of her loved ones , she can even seal her lips for it , she can be strong for outsiders but her family is her weakness and its a fact.

Look it's not just women. It's also about men. Real social work is always a path full of thorns. And one has to be totally committed to it.
There's recent example of Dr. Dabholkar whose entire family was also involved into the cause of fighting superstitions and pushing for anti superstition laws. They all cooperated with each other. It's exemplary that even after his assassination his family did not stop working for the cause they were all dedicated to. Nor do they regret why they got into it in first place.

That's the spirit what is needed.

Otherwise tussle with family remains. Even Gandhi's kids had problems with him!

For family the concern is always personal. They appreciate tad bit of good samaritan work and any praise or awards that come with it. But if it threatens them then they never cooperate. And threat is not only physical, for them even lack of attention is a threat.

Shekhars are okay with Shiv also only till the time their commitments aren't affected. Sanchi blasted him when he said he wouldn't be able to make it at her engagement and had an important meeting. Sumitra has been expressing disapproval whenever Jagya risked his life to save Ganga.

Very few people genuinely have concern for society. Others only claim to have it but later self-centredness and self preservation takes over and they put their foot down.

I don't see Anandi as some great social worker anymore. She was once. But not now.
Rather I am disappointed with CVs that they implied that social work is something that's a coping strategy for depressed people (over break ups or divorces) who have been disappointed in life and need a change or need to do something to feel busy and good about themselves!

Anandi can do bit of stuff like organising awareness sessions sporadically or helping few people nearby. The rest she can't do, because her family is her priority, not social commitment. When social commitment is indeed a committment then one never leaves it no matter what. And such courageous people are rarest of the rare.

But I won't bash Anandi for it. One should do what one wants to do and with full heart. I don't want her to do social work with guilt or pressure about family. She should do it only if she can commit herself to it.

I don't expect much from her too. After all she was raised in a milieu where women are condtioned to be only housewives. She is a result of that conditioning mainly. Teacher ji's influence comes up once in a while but it can't negate influence of Bhago, DS, Sumitra and Gehna.

Anandi is better off running a school which is a much safer option. Tackling rape or DV or alcoholism is not her cup of tea (especially if she hopes to do it without disturbing family).

Forget social work! No great things were ever accomplished keeping entire family happy! It's a fact!

The thing i most fear now is if Ira does not allow Anandi to work she will stop her social work and wait for Ira to calm down which will be so wrong for those women who stood up for themselves because Anandi gave them hope...they will now have to manage themselves for god knows how long...i hope Shiv protests against this and tells that no one should stop Anandi from working
