Paid Previews Cost Chennai Express Opening Day Record

Saturday 10th August 2013 14.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

The paid previews on Thursday have probably cost Chennai Express the opening day record but cost is actually not the right word as a record is just a number which gets beaten in time while the makers are better off as they collected a very good figure in paid previews.

Though for the record it is pretty certain that a new record would have come in had there been no paid previews as the miss was by just around 1.25 crore nett and there is sure to have been a large chunk of the Friday audience which saw the film on Thursday.

But as has has been said above the collections stand at 35 crore nett plus after day one with paid previews while if there were no paid previews it could have been around 32 crore nett.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer "Chennai Express" (CE) has created another record at the domestic box office by grossing more than Salman Khan's "Ek Tha Tiger" opening day collections.

Bollywood's King Khan, Shah Rukh, has now raised the bar at domestic box office with his latest release. "Chennai Express" has raked in a whopping ?33.12 crore on the first day of its release in Indian theaters.

After beating Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots" paid preview record, "Chennai Express" has now shattered "Ek Tha Tiger" first day earning records.

Before the release of "CE", Salman's spy-thriller had held the record of the highest first day collection with ?32.92 crore. With ?33.12 crore, "Chennai Express" has shattered all previous records at the domestic box office.

"Let's begin the day with a SMASHING news. #ChennaiExpress smashes all previous records, collects ?33.12 cr on Friday. Creates HISTORY," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

BOX OFFICE: 'Chennai Express' Breaks Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger' Day 1 Record!

By BusinessofCinema News Network on August 10, 2013

MUMBAI: Box office history has been created! Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Chennai Express', directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, has shattered the previous box office record held by Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger'.

As reported by us, Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger' had a mammoth opening last Eid, with the highest ever collections at Rs 320 million (Rs 32 crore) net (SEE STORY HERE)

In comparison, SRK has begun the BO race on an even sturdier note, garnering a whopping Rs 330 million (Rs 33 crore) net on Day 1 itself!

'Chennai Express', which also stars Deepika Padukone, looks geared to touch Rs 100 crore very soon. The question now seems to be how soon 'Chennai Express' can beat 'Ek Tha Tiger's 100 crore record, which the Salman Khan film achieved in a mere 5 days.

Meanwhile, the record-holder for the highest ever box office collections (Rs 200+ crore) is held by Aamir Khan starrer '3 Idiots', directed by Rajkumar Hirani. '3 Idiots' had opened in 2009, with a day 1 collections of a staid Rs 125 million (Rs 12.5 crore) net on its opening day.

It should be interesting to see whether SRK can shatter the record held by Aamir's '3 Idiots', and with such highly impressive box office collections on Day 1, it seems quite possible that he will.

Other websites are saying the opposite. I even read in the newspaper today that Chennai Express broke ETT's opening day collections.πŸ˜•Which is true?

Expected thread from the topic maker. Ise kehte hain hypocrisy. After claiming that BOI is a fraud site when it posted YJHD broke Dabangg2's non-holiday opening record he uses the same site when it says CE couldnt break ETT's record. Just a refresher of the hypocrisy:

And claims that fell flat later on:
