I do not think kundan was an adopted child. If so, then am missing something.
The introduction scene clearly said that his grandfather came to banaras for priest job . So basically, Kundan and his family are Tamil Nadu brahmins living in Banaras. And his father is very much shocked and upset for Kundan's death. Fast eating kind of reflects his pain.

As far as I understood it...zoya herself explains the reason...after jasjeet's death she thought she can atleast lead life by fulfilling jasjeet's dream but that purpose also was snatched away unitentionally by kundan from her...so basically i guess she want to get rid of this love saga of kundan once and for all..she joined those bad politicians for her own needs of getting rid of kundan and not for political benefits.. ...i still do not feel it was for revenge totally..it has more dimensions to it.. hopefully some one else can explain it in a better way...

I pull back my words,.. he was not adopted,..
it is made clear from the start that dhanush belongs to a family of brahmins who migrated from tamilnadu to UP and is in fact not a UP pandit but a tamil brahmin .

Dark letters :
So, Is it safe to assume that, kundan/his fast friend had sent those muslim goons to hit Jasjeet, ( Or,...Who had sent those ppl to hit jashjeet ? ) and when the lady ( Zoya's saheli ) said that he was her brother,
and though Kundan tried hard to save him, by taking to hospital and though he ( abhay ) seemed being recovered,
within the same 1-2 days after his returning
Jasjeet got dead ( most probably ) due to that same injury's reaction of hit/injury,..
and hence Zoya kept on telling that Kundan killed Jasjeet?
or,..
does she meant to say that,...
since jasjeet could not marry her
( due to the breakage imposed by Kundan ) ,
and hence Jashjeet died due to the shock-sadma / self-murder ?

No, Kundan did not kill Jasjeet by sending muslim goons. We cannot assume that.

The reason Zoya keeps saying that Kundan killed Jasjeet or for that matter even Kundan feels the same is coz Kundan was the man responsible for the incident which lead to out burst or angst of muslim community. If he had not revealed the truth during wedding ceremony everything would have been perfect. Zoya would have married Jasjeet. But Kundan's impulsivines lead to events which caused death of jasjeet.

Film review: Raanjhanaa

By Karan Anshuman

Film: Raanjhanaa
?Cast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Swara Bhaskar
Director: Aanand Rai
Certification: U/A
Rating: ***1/2

The first thirty minutes of Raanjhanaa is absolutely riveting. Well, riveting might be the wrong word but the searing strides of a romance that covers decades in fast forward leaves you having to remember to breathe. It is impossible to tear your eyes off the screen as two factors work their magic: Dhanush's madly infectious enthusiasm as the young Kundan and the signature tune that plays every time his heart beats for the love of his life, Zoya. You want to grab on to these moments, pin them down so you can stare at them on your time with the same elation as Kundan's eyes have for Zoya. And you wonder if director AanandRai is going to tell his tale all so quickly - is this film going to end all too soon?

The story is anything but a straightforward romance. If you're going in to watch it as a date film, check yourself. Raanjhanaa is expansive. It will start off charming you with the little details: the tenor of Benaras, the clarity of childhood love, the repercussions of the blinding optimism it effects and even in trifling recurring themes of falling cycles and slit wrists. As it progresses into the second half though, it will immerse you intellectually. Look for subtext - Rai goes well beyond a mere romance; he makes political statements, attacks communalism, gives us a slice of life insider account of youth wing statecraft; it's all there. It may not be entirely authentic and often exaggerated, but in Raanjhanaa's world, Rai strives to make it real.

You may wonder why Rai chooses the path he does for where he takes the story in the second half, but the more you think about it, the less likely an alternate scenario you will find that he could've opted for to realize the ends Kundan and Zoya must reach.

The excellent writing radiates to masterful direction. Rai's characters are all feisty. Every one of them. They move with purpose, even when they have none. What an incredible, refreshing reading and extension and twist to the Brahmin boy, Muslim girl Bollywood conundrum. And handled with such maturity and grace!

He peppers his scenes with just the right amounts of humor, and hat tips cinema, people, and cultural idiosyncrasies. Kundan even pays a tribute to Ranjikanth catching an imaginary bullet between his teeth, while at another time the girl who's in love with him feeds bananas to a cow, seeking its blessing to realize a curse that will kill Zoya.

If one must be entirely objective, then there are two critical moments in the film that opt for Bollywood-like contrivance. You'll know when you see them. But they don't take away from the experience.

You can so easily tell Raanjhanaa falls into the pro-category of filmmaking. If only all of Bollywood's output was so polished. The camera work is delicious, restrained. Rai doesn't get into the trap of capturing everything - away with establishing shots! - he gets what is needed to tell the story in his frames and information that is relevant to the characters.

Dhanush is so good, he makes you want to be him. Sonam hits her peak form. Abhay Deol, Kumud Mishra, Swara Bhaskar, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub are scintillating as an ensemble.

Raanjhanaa flows like good poetry. It is arguably the best love story of the year so far, the kind of film others in the genre should aspire.

This is definitely the best critics review about the movie...instead of the usual complaints with the second half...especially the bit where he points out that the more you think about it, the more you realize there couldn't really have been any other turn of events for these characters...

He does it during that silent bit when he's enacting his wedding to Zoya as she looks on laughingly from her balcony...she pretends to shoot him and he then pretends to catch the bullet in his teeth and spit it out Rajnikanth style😆

Yaah,.. i just saw the clip again,...
goons were not sent by Kundan's friend,.. ( unlike last time, that he had took off spark plug from Zoya's father's car ) but the muslim angest itself hit Jasjeet,
for committing fraud towards the muslim community,...
The question arises,...
when kundan ran with the newspaper at the marriage venue, ( Zoya - Jasjeet ),
was he to leak the the news ONLY to her father that these two together
have played fraud to fool you, ...and she is still marring a hindu,... and thus with a view to venegeance towards Zoya too,...
Or,..
was he convinced that this akram/jasjeet had also fooled Zoya
and that would also be a big news for her too,
that he is a hindu, and had fooled her,
just like Kundan himself had played the same, in the beginning, by introducing himself as Rishwaan.
