I have just joined India Forums and would like to place before you all my first post. I should confess a few things before I begin. I was a very avid viewer of Anamika and if I may add, also a very big fan of the show (I recommended it to quite a few people, made the famous guitar tune my ringtone, etc.) However, the recent turn of events in the show has made me do two things. Join India Forums (I am not into social networking and discovered this site only recently - when I was looking for a platform to vent my grievances against what was once my favourite daily soap) and mount a somewhat comprehensive critique of the show and its CVs.
A Sincere Viewer's Critique:
PART 1 of 3.
Pseudo-Originality:
Since the very beginning, the show seemed more than inspired from a number of well known sources. The theme of mixing social drama with the supernatural was certainly new for television viewers, but it certainly had many predecessors on the big screen. A number of plots and sub-plots of the show seemed inspired (if not directly borrowed) from films like Neelkamal (1963), Bees Saal Baad (1988), Pyaar Ka Saaya (1991), Ghost (1990), and even glimpses of the Twilight series in the very beginning. Recently, the concept of Anamika's 'choty' and Shalaka's advice of a proper cremation for Anamika seemed added after 'Ek Thi Daayan' & 'Talaash' respectively. The CVs should get the credit for a smooth and well knitted screenplay and their many original additions. But the allegations of 'borrowing' seem too loud.
Inconsistency:
It seemed that the CVs had only a few ideas to begin with. There should be no doubt at all that the concept was extremely appealing but the elongation of certain sub-plots and random borrowing indicated that the contents team was seriously short of substantial ideas. Shortage and the consequent borrowing meant that inconsistencies creeped in gradually initially and later on blatantly. Initially, we were told that Anamika was looking for any random noble human to quench her desire and it was by pure chance that Jeet's car broke down that fateful day at that spot. And now we are told that Jeet is the King's rebirth. This was a major inconsistency that almost redefined the story. This was the last thing one expected from a wise contents team.
Four more Elements remain in this critique which I shall post in the next couple of days as soon as I gather and articulate them. I cannot emphasise enough my shock, displeasure and sadness at how I have to publicly criticise a show I cherished so much.
