We Share The Same Sky
'Kumud! I'm coming' Saras cried as he ran through the bushes to go to the factory. It is now or never, he thought. He had to see her before leaving. He gave a damn about the mud that dirtied his clean Denim blue jeans. It was only about Kumud he cared. His Kumud.
He paused to catch his breath as he reached the property of the factory where the workers kept themselves busy with their work. He ran his fingers through his wet hair and wiped off the water across his forehead by his hands. He felt her presence; he knew she was around why or why did he feel that his heart beats to the rhythm of her footsteps. He has walked in a trance to where he thought she was and then and took a hold on himself. But he knew his instincts were never wrong where Kumud was concerned. He was going to search for her but had ended up in the empty storeroom.
Was this a joke? No she was here and he knew it. It was then he heard the familiar sound of her anklets coming across the colouring room. He waited there so still that even the sound of breathing wouldn't be heard of the quietness there.
Kumud smelled the familiar fragrance of Gucci Guilty and she knew he was around; she has to look for him. Oh God! Had he really been here? She felt a wave of happiness ran all over her; wiped her eyes from the back of her hands and took a step towards him. She took another step, this time quicker than before and found herself running into him.
Saras almost lost his balance as Kumud ran into his arms and hugged him tightly. They both felt the tremor pass through them at the most clinical touch. He pulled her more into him holding her waist with his hands.
He poured his heart out to make her understand how much he needed her. He knew he had to complete some tasks before they could be together forever, and he has to go back. He knew his eyes told her all that he felt for her, told how much he wanted her, to be with him forever. He held her face with his palm and touched her forehead with his, unable to bear her crying hysterically.
'Shh Kumud!' He murmured as he let go off her face.
'I want you to be strong, I will be back soon to take you with me forever! It's a promise, Kumud!' She just stared at him dumbfounded at the vehemence in his voice, the pain he must have felt at the thought of leaving her behind.
She put out her hand to his cheek to give whatever assurances she could in that small gesture and it was right then he pulled her into his arms, letting his emotions flow. He dug his hand into her hair as he pulled her closer, till there was no space for even the air to pass between them, her head lying in the crook of his neck.
Saras released her gently taking his hand off her as they heard footsteps nearby; they did not want anyone to see them there. He placed a light kiss on her forehead, turned around and left quickly, he knew that had he turned around to steal one last glance at her, he would never be able to get away. He felt her eyes trying to stop him, but he knew that he had to go for their own good.
The sun bid goodbye to the long boring day and the stars and the moon made their way to bring happiness and liveliness to the lovers; lovers apart and even lovers together. Kumud was waiting for his call since the nightfall, and she had checked it infinite times to see if she had missed his call.
Kumud was almost asleep when Saras called her, with a startle she rose to her feet and went out of the bedroom. She complained to him like a small kid would complain her mother for being late to pick her from school. At the same his voice eased her tension but a wave of terror ran through her spine when she heard a female voice from the background. She hadn't been jealous when Radha flirted with Saras, but it was different then and now he was miles away from her and she could not bear any woman seeing him.
Saras noticed the long silence at Kumud's end and he knew that she was still upset for him calling late. He tried to fill the emptiness they felt over the phone and hence asked her to go to the terrace and to have a look at the moon. She followed him without hesitation, and listened to the quietness of the night, feeling what they both wanted to share.
They knew that even though they both are in different places they belong together. They both are connected with the same sky, moon and the stars. They both were gazing at them together at the same time, seeing the reflection of each other on the moon. Their love is stronger than life itself, though they are far away from each other. But just as they had promised they will always remain connected by the same sky and the same moon.
This is my version of how they bid good bye for the first time and how they stay connected
