Chapter 14

Sameer Rathod rubbed his temples roughly as he leaned back into his chair. Last few days had been really taxing for him. But the most nerve wrecking wasn't the Melavar's or the knowledge that they may now be in league with Sikander. It was Fiza coming back into his life.

She is not exactly in your life a forlorn voice said in his head You lost her long before.

But this didn't stop his heart from missing a beat when he thought of her beautiful face. She had made it the mission of her life to torture him by sauntering into his office now and then. The end result was that he was working almost twenty four hours now. Work was the only thing that took his mind of her and he was grateful for the challenging case they had at hand now.

As if on cue , Arjun entered his office. By the look on his face Sameer knew that he was here for an argument. With a resigned sigh he asked "What's it Rawte?"

Arjun scrutinized Rathod sharply. His classically handsome face looked haggard and his usually fiery eyes were dead now. Things were taking a toll on him and he was shrewd enough to know that it wasn't the case alone. But he wouldn't interfere on his sister's behalf. She had a right to extract revenge in his opinion. Besides he was more bothered about the case.

"I wanted to ask something about the case" Arjun said stiffly, behaving cordially with Rathod was a real ordeal for him, when what he really wanted to do was reduce him to pulp.

"What about it?" Rathod continued calmly.

"How long have you known about Sikander's involvement?" Arjun came straight to his point.

" A week now, I got that information from Nidhi, she and Shaan were on his trail" Rathod replied.

" Why do I find that hard to believe?" Arjun narrowed his eyes.

"Why should I lie to you?" Rathod asked

"Honesty isn't your moot point Rathod" Arjun said coolly

" You are mixing personal and professional Rawte" Rathod replied.

" What I want to know is whether you were keeping the information about Sikander hidden , just like you didn't tell us about Melavar's" Arjun said , glaring into Rathod's eyes.

"I kept the news about the Melavar's hidden because they are after me and not the team. I would've continued alone if Sikander hadn't come into picture. Both you and I know that in our field of work having weaknesses can be fatal. Now you won't believe me , but this team is my weakness which is why I decided to proceed alone on this case" Rathod explained , his voice surprisingly calm.

" Why would you bring the case to us now, knowing that I am here" Arjun goaded him on.

" Because now you have Riya to hold you back. Don't take this wrongly, I know you will avenge Roshni but you are a lot more level headed now" Rathod clarified.

Both held each other's gaze for a while before Arjun stood up to leave the room. On his way out

"I can't forgive what you did to my sister Rathod , but just now I do believe you are telling the truth. If I find that you have been lying , then I promise you , all hell will break loose"

In the ETF conference room

" Our path to Sikander won't open up easily. We have to start at the very lowest step and slowly crumble his empire. His main dealings are in drugs and women here. Shaan explain about the case you were on" Rathod turned to Shaan.

"It was about a girl of 22 gone missing from a party at her friend's house. No signs or reports of struggle. She seems to have left the party with her partner on her on account. On tracing about her partner we drew blank. Fake ID , fake details. On the description from her parents and brother we made a sketch and caught the man. He was just the starting of a long chain. He usually trapped girls by creating such fake identities and sold them. Almost all the girls he caught were high profile ones. Tracing from him we managed to save the girl but couldn't get hands on the people who took her. The ring leader of these people here is a man called Aditya"

The whole team jerked up on hearing the name. Sree clicked on his laptop and turned it towards Shaan.

"Is this the guy?"

"Yeah you people know him?" Nidhi asked.

"Yes we do" Rathod said with a sigh . Saari pareshaani ki jad yeh hi tho hain he added mentally "Anyway what about him?"

"He must've direct dealing with Sikander , because so far we have had no luck in catching him" Nidhi replied.

"So that's how he got off last time" Mushi said , exhaling deeply.

"Last time?" Shaan frowned at her

"Yes we had a similar case an year before. Missing model and this creep turned up in that as well. Led to the cancellation of a prestigious fashion show. Unfortunately we could never save the girl." Riya said , looking sad.

" Any clues about him now?" Arjun asked.

"Latest info is that the guy is back here now" Nidhi said.

" We were planning to go after him when the intel about Sikander's men meeting at the shed came up and we deviated. Now I think we should be back on his trail" Shaan said.

"It's not going to be easy Shaan , he knows us, at least most of us. He won't fall our trap again" Rathod said

"How about we bait him?" Nidhi said.

"That's what we did last time using his ex girlfriend and" he stopped here to look at Arjun "It went completely haywire"

"That is understatement" Arhaan said under his breath.

"Well he knows you guys but not us. How about this time we do it?" Nidhi said.

"What are you suggesting Nidhi?" Shaan asked, having a strong suspicion about his plans.

"I am planning on baiting him" Nidhi clarified , staring straight into her husband's eyes.

"Nidhi we can't allow. We have seen the damage one mission cost us and we don't need a repeat show" Arjun said firmly.

"Arjun you of all know how important it is to us that we catch Sikander. Wait" she raised her hand as Arjun looked about to interrupt "I am not using your history here. It's important because Sikander alone wreaked a lot of havoc on our country , imagine what he would do when he has a powerful cartel like the Melavar's with him" Nidhi finished looking around at the team.

The whole team silently contemplated the idea for a while. Just like the last time this was their best option. Mushi knew why Nidhi offered to do it. Her sister probably thought she was the only one in the group with no attachments. But as long as she , Mushi was alive , she would allow no harm to come by her sister. She glanced at Shaan and grimaced. Just why did her sister end up with the moron?

" This is a suicide mission Nidhi I won't sugar-coat and I am guessing you will have to be undercover. We will have to give you a new identity , you know the drill" Rathod said gravely.

"I know the risks Rathod but I want this b*****d finished once and for all" Nidhi said , looking determined.

As the team got into further discussions , Shaan could only look at his wife helplessly. Rathod was praying inwardly for Nidhi's safety. His life went haywire in a similar situation and he didn't want another life to be ruined.. Arhaan was looking at Mushi who was throwing dirty glances at Shaan. He could guess the thoughts in her mind. He would be with her in whatever she did. Riya and Arjun shared a knowing look. They both were thinking of Fiza who was now on a warpath with Rathore and how something similar an year ago had made her what she was today.

Two days earlier

8 pm

Fiza kissed Ayaan good night n hugged Vikas

"Thank you so much vikas if you need anything just call me I'll come asap" she said

"Don't stress we are fine go enjoy, main hoon na" Vikas hugged her tighter "By the way you look stunning, bhai se hi mile re hain na ? I mean yeh dress main seems you want kill all the men that see you ,with how beautiful you look". says Vikas

She blushed "sab nahin Vikas ek hi ko" To show him what he lost thought Fiz & walked out

Meanwhile At ETF

"Arjun main kyun aoo, nahi you just go its been so long, spend time with your baby sister next time I'll join you both says Riya

"No .. you are coming, that's it samhje ya samjhaon? Says arjun

"Now when Arjun S. Rawte orders how can anyone say no".Riya complied and went away to get dressed.

Fiza. walked into the ETF office looking ready to kill.

Sam was there in conference room. He was stunned seeing Fiz but acted cool as if he didn't care.

"Hello boys" she said ignoring Sam just the same way

"Bhai Kahan hain" says Fiza

"Fiz Arjun sir went home he must be waiting for you there" says Shree

"Oh ghar pe he never told me I thought I had to meet him here

bye boys" saying this she walked out.

At his home Arjun set the table for 3 and waited for the 2 most important people in his life.He had always pampered Fiz a lot and loved her but now she has been through so much that he just wanted to make her forget everything about her past.

As a big brother it was his duty to settle her home, find her someone who will protect her.

As for Riya,well she seems to have found everything she wants in him. He is actually surprised at how she accepted someone like him and loved him so selflessly. In the 9 months she has been a true partner giving him the support when he needed someone to hold on.

He stills remembers the day when Fiz went away from him. He was broken that he couldn't protect her.

9 months ago

After reading Fiza's note he knew he won't be able to find her. The loneliness in that house haunted him and he broke down everything he could get his hands on. He didn't go to ETF that day. How could he, to see the man who was the sole reason behind all this.

Here in ETF the environment was grave. Whatever happened was unbelievable. To think that their honest chief could do something like this and say such bitter words were shocking.

Riya was getting worried. He hadn't come yet and wasn't picking up the phone.

"He never did that, never came late. Maybe he is sad after all this, I have to see him" with these thoughts she went out not bothering about permission as she too couldn't fathom as to how could Sameer do such a thing.

The door to his house was open and when she went inside it was as if an earthquake had just come across tearing everything down. She hurriedly went looking for him and found him by the bed sitting on the floor, shoulder slumped with a defeated look on his face..

This broke her heart. Her ever brave senior was sitting there defeated and broken. She couldn't see him like this. She sat down besides him and took his hand. He looked up to see her and she saw dries tears in his eyes. She just took his hand rubbed them as she wiped away his tears and resting her head on his shoulders.

Though none spoke silence was speaking volumes as both sought comfort in each other's presence.

After a while he looked up to see her now teary eyes as she cried in pain with him. He saw pure love for him in those eyes and somehow her silent comfort had reduced his pain. She was just like Roshini as he remembered how she too had just held his hand and sat besides him when Fiza had left for the first time.

He again looked at her, took her face in his hands and kissed away her tears sucking on them. He took her in a hug and just basked in the feel of her.

Arjun emerged out of his thoughts as the bell rang. Fiza was standing at the door step smiling at him. He embraced her and they sat in the hall catching up on past moments.

"Tho bolo Fiza, how were you?" Arjun asked pouring her some juice.

"Teek tha bhai, I went to UK and worked under a designer for a few months. Meine fashioning designing mein degree ki thi when I first went abroad. So I decided to put it to use. I am planning to start a clothing line of my own"

" Wow meri chutki sacchi mein badi ho gayi hain" Arjun had a proud glint in his eye.

"Haan bhai ab tho badi hona hi hain" Fiza said thinking of Ayaan.

"Haan , mein tho tumhein teek se rakh nahin paa raha hun na " Arjun said with a sad smile.

"Bhai even for once don't hold yourself responsible for what some irresponsible jerk did. You are one of the best things I got from God" Fiza said , taking her brother's hand "You always gave me space, let me be myself. You and Rosh bhabhi were my strength. I couldn't be there when you needed me but you were always there for me. Makes me a bad sister na"

" No chutki you are not and I promise that I will find the best man for you" Arjun said

"I already have him bhai" Fiza said with a smile thinking of Ayaan.

"What? So fast?" Arjun asked , looking ready to reprimand. His sister's taste in men had proven to be disastrous twice now " What if he is a jerk again?"

Fiza thought of Vikas now and smiled "Bhai he picked me up when I was broken and healed most of my wounds. I will introduce him soon"

Riya too joined them after a while. The silent interactions between Arjun and Riya weren't missed by Fiza and she was happy for her brother.

"Fiza sacchi bol tu thik hai na"

"Haan bhai waise aapko nahi lagta aapko kuch batana hai mujhe"

Arjun gets the hint and they talk. He tells he about finding another love in Riya and how she was so like Roshni. Fiza felt truly happy for her brother. Then a sudden thought clouded her mind. Why didn't she and Rathod get the happiness her brother found?

Meanwhile somewhere in a nice hotel a couple is waiting for their dinner.

"Kitna accha lag raha hai na saath mein yese baithna Arhaan"

"Haan kisne socha tha hum aese ek saath.Sacchi agar tum woh stunt nahi karti na toh aaj hum kabhi yaha nahi hote" Arhaan replied , taking her smaller hands in his.

Flaskback

As usual our couple were fighting and Arhaan commented,

"Tu Jackie Chaan ki behen bilkul acchi nahi hai nahi, hot toh mein hun mujhe kyun interest hogi tujhe date karne mein "

"Accha sahi hai,bandar kya janne adarak ka taste"

"Haan par tujhe koi insaan bhi nahi dekhega"

"Accha thike toh mein tumhe challenge karti hu aaj raat hum bar mein jayenge aur dekhte hai kya hoga,done?"

"Ok done"

As planned both came to the bar and well Arhaan had to admit she did look sexy in that red short number of hers. He was shamelessly staring at her.

Mushi smriked and coughed,"Like what you see'"

"Nahi kuch nahi chal andar"

Inside lots of boys were giving her stare and she was happily responding to them. Something was burning inside Arhaan. Eventually a guy came to ask for a dance with her.

Though she didn't want to, her ego made her go and she regretted it. The guy was not letting go of any chance of touching her no matter how much she protested.

So our hero came in between gave that guy a good punch and dragged her out angrily

"Kya jaroorat thi usse marne ki,mein sambhalsakti thi"

"Dikh raha tha mujhe"

"Tumhe kya hai mein jo chahe woh karu kyun farak pade tumhe"

"Padhta hai kyunki tumhe choone ka haq sirf mujhe hai"

She stared at him with her big eyes and he too understood what he said and then he just pulled her in a hug and whispered, "You are beautiful" while she blushed.

"Took you long to notice" Mushi said with a teasing smile.

A smile came on both their lips as they remembered the time and gazed in each other's eyes showing their love.

Across town in an apartment, Nidhi and Shaan were at home , the silence between them speaking volumes.

"Dinner ready hai" Nidhi said from the kitchen. Shaan made his way slowly towards the dining room contemplating on the decision made at the ETF. He remembered the Nidhi from the time he was engaged to her sister. She would have thought at least five times before taking a decision. But now she just made a decision on spot. She was almost reckless now.

Few months ago

On a secret operation

"This doesn't look easy" Shaan muttered under his breath, tightening the grip on his gun. It had been an hour since they were on encounter with a gang of thugs who had kidnapped a small baby. Most of them had been taken out but two of their main men were guarding the baby. The rest of his team was outside dealing with the other goons He felt Nidhi let out a breath beside him. He spared a glance at her and found her concentrating hard. Shaan and Nidhi were stealthily observing the men to find a way in.

"There is a way" Nidhi explained in short what she had in mind.

"That is reckless , you will be in direct line of the guy on top" Shaan said "We have to find another way"

"We can't waste time. What if our team hasn't taken out all of them outside. Anyone could come in to warn them. This is our best shot. You are a maverick at distant shot. I will take out the other guy. We have no time to waste sir" Nidhi said

"Nidhi we" Shaan was interrupted just as he began "Sir you should think about the baby's safety than mine" Nidhi said.

Shaan felt stung. He was obviously worried about her safety. Ever since he realised the mistake he made he had been trying his level best to do the right things by her. She had been working with him even before his engagement to her sister and yet soon after their forced marriage they had gone from friends to total strangers.

" Sir I am going in" and before he could stop her she was out. Only he would know the intensity of the tension he felt that day. He thanked God profusely later that day for leaving Nidhi unhurt.

Shaan came out of his thoughts and looked at Nidhi who was silently having her food.

"Nidhi about this mission" Shaan began

" I am doing this mission" Nidhi cut in swiftly in an end of discussion tone.

"I know I can't persuade you to back out. My argument will only goad you on. Just know this you don't have to get yourself killed to be free of me" he stopped here and moved an envelope towards her. Nidhi looked at him and the envelope. She opened it to find divorce papers in it. Her eyes widened in surprise. So he had finally decided to release her. Though he was saying about freeing her , he was probably glad at being free himself.

Nidhi met Shaan's gaze again before saying.

"Let's concentrate on the mission at hand now. We have to reach early at the office tomorrow"

ETF office

Next Day

Everyone was collected there discussing about the undercover operations and the other operations they were planning whilst Nidhi was on hers. Heeled footsteps sounded outside the conference room. Soon the owner came in and Sam was once again lost in a pair of hazel eyes. His eyes travelled down the hourglass figure clad in a curve enhancing saree. Her hair was up in a high pony and she looked every bit a siren. The smile adorning her lips were even more killer.

"Hello guys , sorry to interrupt but I wanted you to meet someone before I went off on a photoshoot" Fiza said in a cheery voice , gazing longer at Sam than anyone else

"That's Fiza , Arjun's sister. She was the bait last time. She um has a history with Sam" Mushi said in an undertone to Nidhi.

"No wonder the chilling gaze she is giving him" Nidhi said looking back at the beautiful woman.

Just then a fairly tall man dark in maroon jeans and a trendy check shirt with a scarf over his neck walked in. The open smile adorning his lips would flatten most of the ladies.

"Wow Vikas Khanna! OMG!" Mushi said out loud surprising everyone. Mushi was the last person they expected to show any interest in men apart from Arhaan , who looked irritated.

" Oh wow! Now she won't spare, my ears" he muttered

"You know him?" Arjun asked sharply.

"Who doesn't? This is Vikas Khanna, the best chef of New York and charming and handsome" Riya said gaping at Vikas .

Arjun snapped his head towards her and fumed on finding her staring with glazy eyes at the newcomer.

" Relax boys , he hosts Master Chef on Star Plus. Even men know him. Not just us ladies" Nidhi said , smiling at Vikas. Shaan wished she would smiled at him like that.

"But he is more popular with us ladies isn't he?" Fiza winked , making Rathod gnash his teeth. Fiza noted his irritation with satisfaction.

"Wait a minute. Isn't he a little too old for you Fiz. No offence man" Arhaan directed at Vikas "But aren't you over 40"

"41 to be precise but still young at heart" Vikas winked for the benefit of the ladies.

A very un Mushi like giggle erupted from her and Riya was blushing. It wasn't long before they were all alarmed as Arjun charged towards Vikas. Fiza interrupted his procedure by coming between him and bewildered looking Vikas "Bhai what are you doing?"

"The question is what is he doing Fiza. He is too old for you" Arjun shouted .

"Oh come off it bhai. I had my chance of men of what society considers suitable age and look how both ended. I am happy with Vikas and I trust him. He has looked after me just like you did bhai" Fiza said " He knows how to respect women" she looked at Rathod now.

Riya was clutching Arjun's hand now "Arjun please don't make a scene here. We can deal with this at home" she whispered to him frantically.

"Bhai I don't have time for a talk but I promise we will. We both have to get going. Vikas need to be off for his shoot and I also have one. See you all later guys" She waved at them as she left hand in hand with Vikas much to Arjun's and Rathod's displeasure. Arjun turned to glare back at Rathore, his eyes leaving no one in doubt that he also held Rathore responsible.

" Sree lagtha hain humko ek dhoosri drama dekhna padega" Chotu said in an undertone.

"Haan yaar acha hain ki humari zindagi mein koi laundi nahin hain" Sree exhaled in relief.

Arjun had stalked off into his office followed by Riya.

"What the hell does she think she is doing?" he screamed to no one in particular and was about to break a vase when Riya caught his hand.

"Arjun calm down" she said firmly making him place the vase down .

"Don't tell me she is a big girl and all that Riya. She is making a mistake again" Arjun shouted.

" Arjun I won't side with Fiza but you should know one thing when it comes to love age doesn't become a problem . We should give Fiza a chance to explain" Riya replied calmly.

Arjun gazed into her soulful and felt his anger seeping away. He gently touched her face.

"How is it that you always manage to cool me down?" he asked softly.

"Maybe because I have your heart" Riya smiled at him, gently placing a kiss on his cheeks. Arjun slowly encircled her waist in his arms and claimed her lips in a tender kiss.

The same night.

The ringing of the doorbell brought Vikas out from the kitchen.

"I will get it" he shouted to Fiza , who had come back early from the photoshoot. She couldn't bare to stay away long from her baby boy.

Vikas opened the door to found four pairs of eyes in varying degrees of surprise looking at him.

"Hello" he said nervously "Come in"

No sooner had the words left his lips that Arjun charged into the house roaring "FIZA!"

"Listen you need not" Vikas began worried that Ayaan would wake up hearing the commotion. He knew that Fiza hadn't told them about him.

"You better keep your mouth shut!" Arjun snarled at him.

"Bhai!" Fiza came rushing into the room dressed in pajamas "How did you find this house?" she knew at once how stupid the question sounded. Her brother was an ACP. She prayed inwardly that Ayaan wouldn't wake up. She looked at Riya , Mushi and Arhaan , all of whom looked uncomfortable.

Arjun looked his sister up and down. Her hair was dishevelled and her shirt was buttoned wrong. Just what did they interrupt , he didn't need guessing much. He was positively furious now.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING WITH HIM FIZA?" he bellowed losing all control.

Before anyone could say anything a baby's cry rang through the house stunning everyone into silence.
