A moth to a flame
Meaning - Irresistibly and dangerously attracted to something or someone.
Origin - The phrase is a simple allusion to the well-known attraction that moths have to bright lights. The word moth is used to mean someone who was apt to be tempted by something that would lead to their downfall.
This was my initial reaction with the first scene yesterday. Moth (Sugni) and Vickram (flame). He stands there like the flame: arrogant, confident and almost cocky in the way he looks at her, I knew you couldn't stay away, he is thinking, as he opens his arms and closes his eyes. Sugni can't resist the allure of the flame and almost against her better judgement slowly walks towards him. When he opens his eyes and she looks up into his eyes you see a difference come over him. His face and eyes change and you see his intense attraction towards her, his pull towards, you can practically see the electricity crackle around them. You start to wonder who is the flame and who is the moth?
The rest of the scenes with him running around trying spend some time with her seemed a bit farcical to me not fitting of his character. Perhaps the scenes were cute in the way he was trying like a a boy in love for the first time...trying to manipulate people around him to spend some time together. But I found it weird, not dignified...well they didn't work for me.
Today's scene in the bedroom wasn't as flawless as yesterday's but it was very interesting and moved the story forward so I will overlook all the flaws. The cocky arrogant Vickram was back to find his "shikaar" waiting for him, in his bedroom no doubt. His confidence was dripping off him. He knows he's got her and he is ecstatic. His words though were interesting because they leave so much to interpretation and our Sugni of course is talking about her dreams of a wedding and we, the viewer, are again left wondering, Vickram, really? are you really thinking marriage? You have to take a pause and think because when she says "baya" (wedding) he doesn't cringe. He didn't react, his eyes remained closed as if he too is dreaming of the same. The scene and dialogues after Sugni sees his wedding picture (what was with the picture? why was it so ugly? Sorry I digress I was supposed to ignore flaws) was much better than first part. When he stops her outside and tells her the background of his first marriage, it was very powerful. Varun was wonderful. The intensity was back in his face when he explain his feelings, the difference in the two relationships and what an unexpected surprise his feelings are for Sugni. Very nice. It was all believable.
Now I am left wondering who is the Moth here and the Flame. Is it Vickram who will lead Sugni to her downfall or is Sugni going to take Vickram completely off his course and disrupt his way of life, his plans and everything. I find everything Vickram is saying to be true. At this point I have no reason not to believe him. Why would he lie when it would be so easy for Sugni to check out his story and his game would be ruined. I don't think Vickram is in love with Sugni but there is something very strong there. It may be lust, obsession...what do I know it maybe love.
He keeps asking her do you trust me? I will find a way for us to be together. I don't think he is trying to deliberately deceive her. Everything he feels is real to him. He may not be emotionally available to her at the end and will be the one to shatter all her dreams and cause her heartbreak and pain. I know the story needs it. She is still living in la-la land of dream and rajkumars.
But I sense the CVs or the writers have changed the story a bit. Maybe both will hurt each other and be the cause of each other's downfall.
I guess it remains to be seem who is the moth and who is the flame!
