Till now I was in impression that Annu Malik is the only one who is into ripping the songs directly but today I got to know that, every music director of Indian Film Industry is into ripping the songs straight from the original tracks. (Ofcourse few directors like A.R. Rahman, Sandeep Chowta are not included in this)

Let me start from the recent movies…

Krissh - Rajesh Roshan, how many liked the song Dil Na Diya? Well, tune is lifted from the original song Ceddin Deden by Ottoman Military Project

Okay, now let's talk about superhit soundtrack of Gangster, Pritam is the music director. I guess Ya Ali was the best song of the soundtrack….but wait…..it's a ripped one from the band called Guitara, the original song name is Ya Ghali and 2nd best song of the movie was Bheegi Bheegi, oh wait, this one is also ripped….this one is from a Bangla band called Mohiner Ghoraguli, the song is Prithibi, one more, Lamha Lamha is ripped from Pakistani singer Waris Baig's track Kal Shab Dekha
How many liked Fanaa music (Jatin Lalit) ? Specially the song, Chanda Chamke, it was ripped from one of their songs Yara Yara from Hum Tum…but, was that original? NO, it is a ripped song too…the original song, al-Samra Wil Beyda is by Miami Group

Few more popular hit songs which are ripped from other songs, Urzu urzu durkut from Yahaan (Shantanu Moitra) is ripped from the 1993 track Dulaman by Altan, Gela Gela from Aitraaz (Himesh Reshammiya) is lifted from R Kelly's song, Thoia Thoing.

The list is endless and these guys are never going to stop ripping songs from the original ones.I must start listening to Arabic music, 90% of the songs are ripped from Arabic music.

We can always say that Indian classical music existed for a really long time and its a possibility that Western Music has been ripped from classical music ? Same for Arabic Music..it can be influenced by Indian music too. All these speculations are like saying that Star Wars is a copy of the Mahabharat!

There is nothing really wrong in ripping the music because in that way you are bringing the music to more people. What is wrong in taking credit for it. I think music directors should mention if their song has been taken from somewhere. Either way the music director is going to get appreciation for taking a good song and tuning it to suit indian audiences.

madhavi_r108 ji,

Not agreeing with you on this point Just wondering how Ripping",is good or in case you're saying, it is the fine art of extracting music,So therefore, you can listen to some of the fine music, And you are saying nothing wrong in that. I am falling to comprehend your logic or point how it is good in any circumstances.

When I say music, I mean the expression of ideas (in the form of a musical composition or a sound recording) Music is a creative process. Today, when a musician publishes music, only a privileged set of individuals are able to use the music as they please. However, the creativity of many other musicians and there is an existential responsibility placed upon them to produce originality and create not copying or ripping track from other's. Current practices are very unethical. which exploit the industry and that kind of practice will only do damage to classical culture and the society The greatest reward musicians should have is their own music and nothing else If the freedom of copying and using music appeals to you and you would like the idea spread around in my opinion that is as good as taking a test with open book in front of your teacher in the class.. Music is about creative and passionate ideas. If the music is good, it will spread far more rapidly, in an almost exponential fashion,

A lot of folk songs are so well known that they are copied by most musicians. Eventually, the original composer was lost.

Many people attribute the tune of "Twinkle twinkle little star" to Mozart. But, it was published as "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman" by an anonymous composer way before Mozart created his own variations on it.

Exactly even I support this theory. As long as the music is good and people get to benefit from it whats the problem then?? Yes due respect to the original music should be given. After that fine....

For example take the song Barnalidi has mentioned Purano Sheyi Dineer Kotha. I have never heard or maybe would have never heard too (I usually don't listen to the western music) the Scotish version. But through this song I could atleast I got the chance to listen to this song. And a beautifull one I must say...

But as Barnali observes here .. if the copying is in good taste then musicality benefits generally and I am ok with that .. After all if music be the food of love then we indeed must play on shouldnt we?
What better medium other than music to transcend the clutter caused by our forefathers in our cortex with their dogmatism?
Just my two and half cents among the savants of Music ok
So dont kick me out hard... Ouch!!!! 😆

dotdiddydot ji,
