For The Serial:
When the promos went on air for this show I was intrigued. Having seen a few of the DK episodes the concept looked similar from the promos. So I decided to give this show a try. I did not know that MB did TV shows, this is my first MB show. I had seen KK in her last show on Sony PKB and I knew she was good, had a pretty face and a good demeanor. When the show went on air the first two weeks got me completely hooked. I was happy to know that my suspicion that it was DKs adaptation came true. Most importantly what got me day after day to turn on the telly at 8 was the superb acting of the two stars, a stern, strict doctor who is 40+ and a perky, childish, fun loving, yet mature, but brilliant intern of 24+. The most unlikely couple on the face of the earth, they made me curious to see how they ended up falling in love. But alas, reality struck in the form of TRPs and instead of sticking to the original concept and script, deviations, new tracks and additional characters were introduced!! The whole process of falling in love was rudely cut back and we found ourselves watching an awkward love confession of sorts. Had they stuck to the format of the original story I am sure we would have reached the confession stage only by VDAY...that is the speed the story should have adopted. What followed after that confession was a big roller coaster ride. Through all this only MB and KKs acting shone through like a beacon of light on a foggy night that kept hope for this show alive in the viewers minds. These two completely lived their characters, made them feel real as if a relative was visiting us and sharing our couch space in our living rooms at 8!

For The leads:
MB and KK completely morphed into Dr. Ashutosh and Dr. Nidhi. KKs growth in her acting stunned me, the charming, simple girl next door who was mature enough to see through the facade of Dr. Ashutosh impressed me. But since we are all caught in this controversy right now about MB I am forcefully shifting KK to the back burner, I will write about her another day.

Coming to MB, his portrayal of this seemingly tough doctor with a heart of stone whose only aim, religion and purpose in life were his patients touched a chord in every viewers heart. At the same time to see him shed tears for his Baba in the privacy of his home, his soul engulfed in his misplaced hatred for an unknown girl, his life stuck in the home he cannot have, his stubborn refusal to enjoy the small joys of life all brought tears to our eyes. MB has acted this to perfection, every expression, every gesture, every dialogue he uttered, very subtle yet impactful it felt that a master magician was weaving a web of magic using his eyes, mouth and hands. Then came the phase where he enjoyed Nidhi's company as she made him laugh and share his innermost hurt. He opeens up to her slowly until his inevitable realization that he has started loving this woman who was so much younger to him. His sensitive portrayal of his insecurities, the conflict between his love and hatred with him choosing love, his gradual acceptance of Nidhi, her love and concern for him and finally on the magical VDay when he and Nidhi commit to each other, all these emotions so sensitively portrayed as only a master could do! He made Ashu feels so real, so believable. I could not believe that somewhere hidden in the hindi film industry was this gem of an actor who belonged to a family of stalwart actors but who probably found his proper place only now. Watching him was like reading a book on acting. Hats off to him and I am sure this portrayal of Ashu would have made his mother proud!

Having said all this, I feel his decision to quit must have been an extremely hard one to take. Ashu is his baby, someone he gave life to. But whereas in the earlier episodes I felt he put in 110% in the character, we all have to agree that since VDay episodes it felt like he was putting in only 90%. The reasons for this can be numerous and I am sure even MB must have realized this predicament. Along with being a talented actor he has also come across as an intelligent and genuine human being.

There comes a time in every parents life when after nurturing and raising your baby you release your child to make a mark in this world, to breathe freely and become a successful adult. I compare this decision by MB to that, its painful yet needed for the show to survive. He has released Ashu to find his own place in the telly world, the medium being another actor who can take over and give it that extra 10% that he could not. I initially was in denial and wanted him to reconsider but now I will respect his choice as I believe it may help the show to recover. I will still miss seeing him, hopefully we can meet again on another show!

For the PH/SET/CVs:

There is nothing new to say about what happened till now in the show that has not already been pointed out. I just have one humble request, please do not kill the character Ashu. By now I am sure you would have realized that doing so would only cause the death of your show and a complete waste of all the talents of the people that have invested in this show. We may not have MBs Ashu anymore but I would definitely like to see Nidhi's Ashu. KTLK is their love story which is only now blooming and maturing. Please let it grow, let Ashu and Nidhi enjoy many more October rains, many more wonderful stories in the children's ward and many more cups of Adrak wali chai. Thank you in advance.

P.S: Sorry for this long post, but I am at peace now and able to accept the changes that will happen in the show with an open mind. After all change is the only constant thing on earth.
