"I prefer to believe in Islam"

There are times in all our lives, when we desire the need for divine intervention; times, when life refuses to acknowledge the seemingly obvious and decides to take refuge in a world that is far away from ours. A world that gives the body and mind the spiritual healing that it yearns for. We, at Telly Chakkar.com decided to delve deeper into the lives of our favourite stars and know a little about their lives beyond the obvious.

Aashka Goradia who played the hushed, mother-like daughter Kumud in Sony's Kkusum, will soon be seen on Star One's Jet Set Go. Aashka is a very different believer in God and has given up her own religion for Islam and its prophet's sayings. She talks to Riya V Anandwala about her intense faith and belief in God which will never break.

"Believing in God is not conditional"

Belief in God?

I absolutely believe in God! I believe in the supreme power, so I don't indulge in pujas and havans. I have my share of conversations with Him when I am feeling low and I also believe that our questions are our answers.

God over Religion!

There has been no incident in my life that has made me doubt God's presence. It's hope, and always hope, and without it no one can survive. Believing in God has never been conditional for me. I won't walk upto a mandir if I have asked or I want something. Instead, 'main garibo ko khana khilaoungi.'

"Got, what I asked for!"

Man is greedy, keeps asking for things. I too asked for certain things, and I always got it.

"I follow Islam "

I am not close to the Muslim community, I only follow Islam. I don't follow my own religion and just believe in Islam. I don't want to change my name as it's given me by my father. It is indeed very difficult to read the namaz everyday five times because of my schedules, but I try my level best to live up to it.

"I believe in Allah!"

What is the difference between turning Muslim and following Islam, according to you?

The difference is that some people can be fanatics but one who follows Islam is one who just believes in Allah. Fanatics are found in every religion and I hate that. That is why I give more importance to God and have more faith in Him than religion, because every religion has fanatics.

What about religious taboos?

Yes, there are many things considered taboo in this religion, I try my level best to avoid certain things, but in this day and age it is a little difficult.
