Sameera to act in film on 1857 revolt

She was last seen in Boney Kapoor's No Entry — it was a special appearance for the climax of the film. But this year, things seem to be different for Sameera Reddy. Apart from the several films that the bronzed beauty is currently shooting, one film that she is particularly looking forward to is a historical film based on the 1857 revolution where Hindus and Muslims united to fight the British.

"The film is called Ghulami and will be directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. It also stars Sunny Deol and Irrfan Khan and I play the role of Irrfan's sister in the film. Ghulami is going to be my first historical film and I am looking forward to it. I am excited about stepping into the era of 1857," she says. The film has Sameera playing the character of a dacoit. "Irrfan and I are rebels and we take a stand against the British rule in our own way."

"Of course, there's a love angle too. I fall in love with Sunny Deol," she adds. The other reason why the gorgeous actress is all smiles is her Bengali venture, Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Kaalpurush is to be screened at the Berlin Film Festival. "And to think that I did not want to do the film earlier," she laughs.

After having begun her career with Sanjay Gupta's Musafir, Sameera Reddy was stuck with the sex goddess label. Is she craving for a change in image now? "I am lucky to have bagged good films. I know I did not have any releases after Musafir except for the guest appearance in No Entry. But believe me, it was worth the wait," she smiles.

Apart from Ghulami, there's Benaam with Ajay Devgan, Naqsha with Viveik Oberoi and Fool And Final with Sunny Deol. Then there's Taxi No. 9211 that is soon going to hit theatres. "Thankfully, I have bagged films that give me the chance to show my acting talent. The characters that I play in these films are really unique. And which actress does not want to do different roles and break the mould that she has always been cast in," she concludes.
