Excerpts from the Interview:
The curiosity about your forthcoming film 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' is never ending!
I think the long wait from the audience after my last 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' in 2001 has led to all the interest. Other than that I believe that I make only ordinary films, the usual way. Yes also the star cast here must be giving rise to the expectations. The pair of Shah Rukh and mine also makes people to look forward to watch something potential. We had a very successful innings in the past. Hope it continues forever.
So how do you deal with all the expectations about the film?
Truly I'm getting a bit scared seeing the expectations. I've been making films for 10 years now and have matured now as a filmmaker. 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' happened when I was very young. Now I'm 33 and also greying. I prefer dealing with mature subjects now and I hope the audience will appreciate that.

I'm not married, but I believe that I've handled the subject of marriage with deftness. Before starting a venture I always take into aspect the emotion attached, as I believe that it is a universal feeling that can touch all hearts. Also my personal observations on the topic counts. I grasp the feelings out of the past Hindi cinema and music, observe strangers or friends. That is why there is real heart touching emotions in my films.
Is 'Kabhi Alvidaa...' also a realistic take?
'Kabhi Alvidaa...' is something that I understand but yet I can't describe. It comes from somewhere I don't know but it is not about real people. I created the characters out of that and there is no personal reference bearing to it.
There is buzz that the film has a very unconventional storyline?
I make film with something that naturally strikes me. This film is also a result of that and I don't know what the audience will expect out of me. The film is basically a drama of human emotions. It's not about romance, but marriage and mature relationships. People associated with the film are telling that it reminds them of Yash Uncle's 'Silsila' and 'Closer'. But this film is not the outcome of any other film, but my own. It's a typical Hindi film, with a touch.
How is Shah Rukh Khan in the film?

You work with Abhishek Bachchan for the first time. How was it?
I've seen Abhishek as a kid and so I'm very emotional about him. I've seen him grow up as a human being and as an actor. Shooting with him is like having a party. I'm really very proud of him.
What about working with Amitabh Bachchan?
It's an honor and a rare privilege that I get to work with him for the second time in my career. His character in KANK is something he has never done before, it's flashy and flamboyant.
And Rani Mukherji?
She is one of the brilliant person and a performer I have come across. She has been there in my first film and she has been in touch with me throughout without expecting anything out of me. She is a professional and for her character in this film she has gone an extra mile to look as it is.

Preity Zinta has an interesting character in my film.
You've wrapped up most of the film shooting in New York. How did it go?
I would say that I haven't been through tough times more than those three months of shoot. Shooting a film in some other country is not easy. There are production problems, locations issues, hurricane, and factor of living away from home. But to get the right things for my films I can do everything.
