"Desire"
PART-VII "THE PLAY" PART-I
NP's decision was really surprising for both of them as
Arpi was new for collage she never heard anything about its annual plays, while
Avi take part in it only his first year
as Romeo "best ever" that's what he was declared , but no one knows why he
never participate again in any drama.
But this year everything was going to change, he agreed
to play Romeo, not whole heartedly but as a gift for NP mam. Rehearsals was
starting from that day when Shikha called Arpita and inform her that they are
coming to pick her for rehearsal, they are coming mean that Avi and Shikha both
are coming, Shikha was going to play the "Nurse" most close to "Juliet" . other
roles were already distributed Rv want to be part of Play but Np forbid him
from doing so as she don't want any mess during rehearsals or on stage. A car
stopped at Arpi's door.
Shikha-"Arpita! Are you coming or we have to wait for
you?"
Arpita came running as they were stopped on next side of
street to her house,
Arpi-"Coming dear, why are you so excited?" While
sitting in the car, she noticed Avdhesh's expressions he was looking annoyed,
"what happened to your brother?"
Avi-"oh god Arpita you girls are just chatter boxes! What
happened with me! I m just fine."
Arpita get that there's something wrong, he was behaving
differently, from that night in hospital they turn a bit close friends now, as
they know each others real face, which they are hiding from rest of the world.
she changed the topic,
Arpi-"So Shikha, looking excited, all set for stage
dabue"
Shikha- "Dabute! Yaar its you who is going to get the
best debut ever I m sure you guys are going to burn the stage on performance
night, madam you know how lucky you are?
You are going to be Juliet of the best Romeo ever in
collage history, you have to practice a lot to mach him on stage"
Arpi got chance to divert his tension, " oh really then I
think that was the only chance of this play ever in collage history, otherwise
I don't think he can act as super romantic hero or near to him."
Avi got smile on his face, she saw it in mirror, she
smiled too,
Avi-"oh so Arpita mam have too much confidence on her
acting skills! Let us see mam who is better."
Shikha-"wooooo! Sounds interesting! Now I m sure this
play is going to be most memorable play ever as you both are set to give your
best, BTW Arpita you never told us that you are interested in acting"
Arpi-"well, I like to do it, but just never got chance to
try it in front of anyone, so when mam asked it as her gift, I think should
give a try, may be I can act like my di"
Shikha-"your di, is she actress?"
Arpi-"not actually, but in her collage days she was the
best Juliet, and see now I m going to try my acting skills as same character
"Juliet".
This time Avi looked at her eyes in mirror he get that
she is not happy as again everyone will compare her with her sister, he said-"I
bet you will be worse then your sister!"
Shikha burst in laughter and Arpi give a warning look to
him.
Arpi-"don't you dare to say anything about my di ok she
is the best"
In their convo they reached the rehearsals hall, they all
entered it in light mood Avi forget that he don't want to be Romeo again as
last time when he played the character he loose his love but this time he don't
have it loose it, is that true!.
Rehearsals starts they practice more nowadays as the day
of performance comes closer
They too, now every morning Arpi wake up with the
thoughts of Avi or the dialogs of Romeo which they practiced last day, Shikha
and Avdhesh pick her daily if Shikha was
not going then Avi pick her as they are the protagonist so they have to
rehearse together, they were rehearsing the first meeting of "romeo and Juliet"the
very first visit of Romeo at copulates mention where the party was on, and
everyone was dancing, he was there to search his first love "Rosaline" but as
she was with someone else, Juliet was waiting for her fiance who was coming to
meet her first time,
(Avi=Romeo,,,, Arpi=Juliet)
ROMEO
O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear;
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows,
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand,
And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.
Avi says while looking a Arpi with mesmerized eyes,
ROMEO
[ToArpi]I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
And he bows to kiss her hands,
JULIET
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too
much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.
She draws her hand and placed it with his hand like
worshiping(namaskaar)
ROMEO
Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?
He came close for kiss,
JULIET
Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in
prayer.
She backed a step,
ROMEO
O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands
do;
They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.
JULIET
Saints do not move, though grant for
prayers' sake.
ROMEO
Then move not, while my prayer's effect I
take.
Thus from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.
JULIET
Then have my lips the sin that they have
took.
ROMEO
Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged!
Give me my sin again.
JULIET
You kiss by the book.
Arpi deliver the last line and burst in laugh,
"oh my god, Shakespear must be out of his mind when he write
such lines, and if not then after reading it he must gone crazy"
Avi was smiling too but he don't know he was smiling bz of
dialogues or its Arpi's smile effect,
Next day they were watching others rehearsals when Arpi
asked him-" can I ask something?"
Avi-"what if I say no!" he smiled " I m sure you will ask
then why are you asking?"
Arpi-"why don't you participate last year? I mean you are a
good acter, even I don't want to say but that's a fact."she knows that
indirectly she was asking about "Her".
Avi-this time her memory doesn't affect him much "its bz of
her, you know whom, I thought if I entered the hall and tried to be there on
stage I will be overwhelmed by her memories, and specially as Romeo I can't
even think, bz that time she was Juliet, and that Juliet broke not only my
heart but me too." he ends his talk with a sarcastic smile on his lips.
Arpi-" see but I don't think any thing like that happened. M
I right Mr. Thakur?"
Her last words bring again smile on his face.
Avi-" yap you are right Miss Rai."
Chulbul heard only Mr. Thakur and Miss Rai. He just jumped
in,
"oye MR THAKUR and MISS RAI , chaol realty pe aao aur ROMEO
JULIET ban jaao"
They both were stunned by his words, and he immediately
corrects his sentence, "I mean time for your scene, come on."
They both get on stage it was The balcony scene,
ROMEO
He jests at scars that never felt a wound.
JULIET appears above at a window
JULIET
Ay me!
ROMEO
She speaks:
O, speak again, bright angel! for thou art

As is a winged messenger of heaven
Unto the white-upturned wondering eyes
Of mortals that fall back to gaze on him

JULIET

Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.
She was talking to her self , as he was hidden,
ROMEO
[Aside] Shall I hear more, or shall I speak
at this?
JULIET
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.
ROMEO
I take thee at thy word:

JULIET

JULIET
But to be frank, and give it thee again.

ROMEO
O blessed, blessed night! I am afeard.
Being in night, all this is but a dream,
Too flattering-sweet to be substantial.
Re-enter JULIET, above
JULIET
Hist! Romeo, hist! O, for a falconer's
voice,
To lure this tassel-gentle back again!
Bondage is hoarse, and may not speak aloud;
Else would I tear the cave where Echo lies,
And make her airy tongue more hoarse than mine,
With repetition of my Romeo's name.
ROMEO
It is my soul that calls upon my name:
How silver-sweet sound lovers' tongues by night,
Like softest music to attending ears!
JULIET
Romeo!
ROMEO
My dear?
JULIET
At what o'clock to-morrow
Shall I send to thee?
ROMEO
At the hour of nine.
JULIET
I will not fail: 'tis twenty years till
then.
I have forgot why I did call thee back.
ROMEO
Let me stand here till thou remember it.
JULIET
I shall forget, to have thee still stand
there,
Remembering how I love thy company.
ROMEO
And I'll still stay, to have thee still
forget,
Forgetting any other home but this.
JULIET
'Tis almost morning; I would have thee gone:
And yet no further than a wanton's bird;
Who lets it hop a little from her hand,
Like a poor prisoner in his twisted gyves,
And with a silk thread plucks it back again,
So loving-jealous of his liberty.
ROMEO
I would I were thy bird.
JULIET
Sweet, so would I:
Yet I should kill thee with much cherishing.
Good night, good night! parting is such
sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.
By these words as Arpi turns and Avi climbed down the set
of blcony broke and arpi fell but as Avi
was already standing under it he catches her and a log from balcony set fell on
his forehead, there was a cut on his forehead, but he was looking at her in his arms,
Avi-"Arpita are you ok! Comeon girl speak up!"
