The main Mall Road remained blocked for more than three hours between 2pm and 5.30pm as deputy chief minister and all other senior officers were watching the premiere of Akshay Kumar starrer Patiala House in a local mall. Majority of police stations remained empty as policemen too were busy with the movie premier.
The Patiala police had deployed three DSPs, six SHOs and around 225 junior police officers towards the security of the mall where the premier was being screened on Thursday.
"It shows that our politicians want to appease Bollywood even at the cost of residents. Why was the road blocked? The flow of traffic on the road outside the mall would not have created any problem for deputy chief minister sitting inside the mall," argued a person who introduced himself as Kamalpreet
Almost all senior functionaries including DC, SSP, DSPs, SPs, SHOs, SDM and PUDA officers were busy in making preparations for the movie premiere. Many shopkeepers running shops near Mahakali Temple alleged that policemen had parked vehicles in front of their shops due to which they had to suffer huge losses.
Some people standing near the Civil Lines police station said they wanted to meet the SHO, but officials inside the police station had told them that the SHO was on "movie premiere duty" and they would have to come again.
