Would Ambaji allow Mona to work outside the house?

I mean boogley eyes (Ambaji) won't let her learn to cook, won't let her learn to make Gujarati food...cuz A-ji's afraid that Anu will praise her food and not A-ji's food.....

Heck, just stepping into the kitchen makes Mona feel so scared and guilty that she looks like she's walking on the tummies of a bunch of cute kittens...

What's a girl to do? Stagnate at home like a frog pond while Anu is at work all day?

Did Mona finish college? She could use her education to help the unfortunate and poor!

If Mona is not allowed to learn anything in the kitchen, which is Ambaji's center of power and influence which she will never give up...

Can A-ji at least let her work, get a nice part time job and get out of that insanely claustrophobic house filled with ethnocentric people who are quick to accuse her and laugh at her and barge into her private bedroom without even knocking (talking about Bejal, aka The Daily News, khabar na ho tou...)?

Work will give her something to do, keep her from getting depressed, and she could earn some dough for emergencies, or even some pocket money...

I mean, abhi tak Anu ne apni tankhwa Mona ko kabhi nahi di....kissko dega, A-ji ko ya apni dulhan ko?

Mona should talk to her mom Vimmi and ask her what she does with the earnings her dad gives her each month....if A-ji is going to treat Mona like she knows nothing, then Mona's own mom can fill that gap pronto...then A-ji won't have anything to say...

If Mona has to adjust in a house full of rude folks, then A-ji also has to adjust to Mona and teach her patiently and a little bit everyday, as to how the house is run...

When Hetal and Sejal are gone after marriage, Mona will be in charge as the bahu of the house, then the power shift will begin as A-ji ages.

Jeez, teach her, don't ignore her and treat her like they just released her from cell block H...give the girl a chance...

Such a great idea if Ambaji won't let learn to cook and won't teach her how to be a good bahu then Mona who is a sensible modern and educated girl should go find a job she likes and earn some money for herself and open a bank account in her own name. Because the money Anukalp earns won't go to Mona it will go to Ambaji to run the ethnocentric household she holds down like a military fortress. Mona should keep the money she earns and open a bank account if Anukalp some day divorces her especially after what he said then that money she has earned will come in quite handy the day the Gandhi parivaar kicks poor Mona out because he now thinks it was a mistake to marry Mona. BTW excellent points raised and a great post as always.

It will be a good idea for Mona to go and find work. No women in Gandhi family likes Mona except for Sejal, so she can stay away from them. I do not think ambaji will object to it although it might be against her own self made traditions.
As a man I am ashamed of Anukalp because of what he said....Galthi of gettig married to Mona. Mona still loves Anukalp, so she can keep the money with her at a safe place and if she wants to open an account with a bank, then she can with Anukalp as the beneficiary. Mona should never let anyone know even Anukalp. This bank account idea might sound filmy but for me it is a good thought.

She can still find part-time work,,,get out of the house...make a good balance between her budding romance but also have a life out of the house, so her brain won't stagnate.

Anu won't be able to romance her all the time, so if she has a balance of home and work life to depend on, that would be great for her self-esteem. Not that she's getting any support rom the sasural people...when Anu is away.

Also, KFan and Beet, you both raised awesome points, enjoyed reading them very much...please contribute more!

If Mona worked somewhere, even at her dad's workplace, the money she'd collect would come in handy someday when her whole life changes and she has no one to depend on...

And now Ambaji hates her even more, like that was even possible..better to stay out her line of vision...

Maybe Ambaji would ask her to hand over her earnings out of spite?

Yes, but I still think Mona can find a good part time job. May be she can find a job in Anukalp's firm. May be he can help her out here. She could start out in a data entry position and work her way up. If they won't let her work at home Mona should be able to find work outside the home. At least she escape the daily barrage of criticism from the 3 dragons.

If Ambaji asks Mona for her hard earned money for the house or for herself Mona should tell her to take a hike. This is money that Mona has earned and Mona should do with it what she wants, spend it save it whatever because it's her money.

BTW I love the idea of Mona working for her dad in his shop. If he's not too much of a chauvinist to let her work with him. But if it irritates the Gandhi parivaar he'll be more than happy to let Mona work with him. She can't trust Anukalp or any one in that house so saving up something for herself would be a great idea for her future.

I appreciate your appreciation of my post. I find your posts also very interesting and you raise good points too. I try to respond to as many posts as possible. I wish more IF members participate in this RMJ forum and express themselves as I know there are a lot of silent readers. As individuals everyone has their point of view, and I think they all should express themselves. It will more fun.

I almost forgot Mona did not finish college. Thanks for reminding me. Also Mona could find some kind of work with whatever qualification she has.
