I really dunno why I'm writing this, but just had to get it all out!
I remember reading a thread on Tuesday or Wednesday, about Naku's silence. Sorry, forgot who had posted it. It's been on my mind all week, and so I thought I'd write about that and a few other things.
When Naku first came to know about Kala, I thought she'd retaliate, speak out and try and expose Kala to Dutta! We all feel he needs to know the truth, this time atleast. I was apprehensive, coz I knew that Dutta wouldn't believe Naku. And Kala would as usual twist the truth and make Naku look like the worst kind of liar. Naku surprised me by doing what no other soap heroine has done. She hasn't exposed Kala, she hasn't retaliated, she hasn't tried to find out what Kala's upto! Instead she's fighting her battle her way.
Naku's faith defines her. She is one character we've called superstitious, silly, and utterly ridiculous at times. There've been moments we felt that she isn't worthy of Dutta. With all his emotional complexities, he deserves a woman who'll equal him, in every sense. Naku, with her quiet patience, simply pales in front of him. Naku is in no way the firebrand Seema was, or the cunning go-getter Supriya was. She is something else.
She's got this quiet dignity to her, something that makes her far superior to Kala. She's a doormat when it comes to Dutta, as in we've questioned her apparent lack of self-respect after the scenes where she took his abuse silently, even defended him. I've wanted to shake her and ask her, tum kis mitti ki bani ho, Nakusha? If I were in her place, I'd have left that man for disbelieving me and my love! But she has prevailed. So has her love.
She's foiled every evil plan, without even raising a finger. Deflected every danger that has come her husband's way, set right every wrong, outlived every accusation. She is a superwoman, and that I'd say even if I hadn't seen the scene where she drove the jeep. I've said this before, it takes faith of a different kind to be able to believe in something with all your heart. Faith so powerful that it makes cynics pray! She has been blessed with it. With all her naivety and blind superstition, she also possesses a heart that's chaste. Her faith is untouched by cynicism or hatred. All she knows is to love, and to fight for goodness. Even in the moments she challenges Kala, it's not because she hates her or wants her defeat. It is because she loves Dutta, with all her being.
Now, Dutta deserves someone as complex as him. Instead, he has this woman whose essence is simplicity. And yet, he's lost in her, finding something new about her everyday, falling a little more in love with her everyday. This woman has intrigued him like no one else. And herein lies the answer. Dutta's all tangled up, and this paradox is what is setting him free, from the chains that bind him. She has, in all her simplicity, enchanted him. He has been enraptured by her, from the first meeting. He admitted it. Even during the earliest days, he's treated her differently. Staked his claim on her, branded her in a hundred different ways, unknowingly. Deep down, it's been her he always wanted. The peace she has brought him everytime she smiles, the way she clears his muddled thoughts with her advice or comforting words, he's always wanted it.
They say it takes something powerful yet intrinsically simple to unlock the greatest of mysteries. And so, it has taken a girl as simple as Naku to bring Dutta down to his knees. She has, with her unswerving love and faith, humbled him. He's realized that his hatred and cynicism are no match for her love. She is the answer to all the prayers he's never voiced. Now he will know that all the pain he's known, all the darkest nights he's spent alone, it was all so that he could be worthy of a love so magnificient. A love so chaste and intense that he will be awed, overwhelmed by his own response to it. For he believes that he has no love in him. This woman, will set all his fears free, unlock every dark chamber in his soul, and he will love her with passion and longing, the way a man is meant to love a woman!
