Yes indeed, both Aishu and Shivang are correct.
In the northern parts of India, Kartikeya is considered the elder son (as per Skanda Puran) and Ganesh the younger one. Kartikeya is unmarried while Ganesh is said to have two wives- Riddhi (sometimes mentioned as Buddhi) and Siddhi.
While in the South, Ganesh is the Jyesha Putra of Shiva and Murugan a.k.a Kartikeya is his younger brother. Ganesh remains a bachelor (since he sees his mother, Shakti, in all females) while Murugan who has no such compunctions is happily married to Devasena (daughter of Indra) and Valli (a tribal girl) .
The first was an arranged marriage. A grateful Indra offered his daughter Devasena, to Kartikeya when the latter killed Surapadman and relased Jayendra (Indra's son) from captivity.
The second (with Valli) , a favourite with poets and songwriters, was a love marriage. As with all love stories, there is attraction, threats, clandestine meetings b/w the lovers, fear and finally the joyous union.
In Bengal, i have noticed, Lakshmi and Saraswati are considered their sisters.
