He incarnated in the Darkness to Illuminate the World!
It was the night of the eighth lunar day of dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapad (August-September) and it was raining. Vasudeva and Devaki were in the prison house; their relatives were in fear; they were terrorized, sad and harassed. The Lord chooses such parents and the dark midnight to come to them! Bliss personified Krishna incarnates to illuminate the jiva engulfed by darkness, with His Radiance to give joy to the miserable society, and to shower bliss on the grief stricken people. Where does He incarnate? In the jail!
Who are the parents? Vasudeva and Devaki! Devaki stands for a pure intellect and Vasudeva stands for Sattvic effulgence. The Lord gets revealed in the heart of the jiva who has pure intellect and Sattvic effulgence. Krishna is born to Vasudeva and Devaki, but is brought up by Nanda and Yashoda. Vasudeva took the baby Krishna and placed it in Yashoda's laps.
Yashoda was sleeping. She was not telling the beads. She was not waiting for Krishna. Krishna reaches to sleeping Yashoda. And, what does the Lord do to enrapture her with His lila (divine sport)? He cries.

Krishna cries and wakes up mother Yashoda as if to say, "I have come to your house. How long will you continue to sleep?" Waking up those who are asleep is the essential attribute of the Lord. Making Himself available to even those who do make no efforts to attain Him is another essential attribute of His.
Glory of Observing a Fast on Janmashtami
The japa done on the day of Janamashtami yields infinite merits. Yudhisthira asked Lord Krishna, " What merit accrues from observing fast on Janmashtami?"The Lord says, "One observing a fast on Janmashtami will never be lacking in wealth, food or fame."
In the Skanda Purana, Lord Brahmaji tells Narada: Krishna Janmashtami is famous in this world. It destroys sins. It is equal to many millions of yajnas and pilgrimages. By fasting on Janmashtami, one attains the same pious result as attained by the following:
a) Giving a thousand cows in charity day after day,
b) Giving many millions of jewels in charity,
c) Building many temples,
d) Devotedly serving parents and Guru.
Lord Krishna: The Yogeshvar's Grandeur
Lord Krishna gets up in the morning and reposes in Himself. He inspires you to repose in your own nature of Self, Bliss & Peace in the morning when you wake up. Flute is the best among all musical instruments and Lord Krishna is the greatest player of the flute. Lord Krishna studied the four Vedas and the four Upa-Vedas deeply. A glimpse of that knowledge finds expression in the Bhagvad Gita, which is revered all over the world. Lord Krishna is perfect in the performance of duties. He is perfect in dispassion also. All the six grandeurs of divinity are found in Lord Krishna. His perfection in physical strength is reflected in His lifting mount Govardhan to protect Gokul from the heavy rains caused by Indra.
He danced on the Kaaliya serpent (which had one thousand hoods) and overpowered it to protect the Gopas from the water rendered poisonous by the serpent.
He is perfect in glory and Dharma. He has the potential of imparting Knowledge to the likes of Arjuna and Uddhava.
Lord Krishna – The Supreme Guru
Lord assumed the role of Arjuna's Guru and imparted the Knowledge of Ultimate Truth to Him, whereby Arjuna could repose in his Real Self.
Gita gives us the message that unless we come by a Guru, or the Lord Himself assumes the role of our Guru, we cannot rid ourselves of misery even if we have Darshan of Lord's form day in and day out. That is why it is said:
"The Guru's Grace alone can bring about the disciple's Supreme good."
Good can happen by the grace of a god, austerities, help or a boon from others; but Supreme good can come only by the Knowledge imparted by SatGuru or any Self-Realized great man. Lord Krishna is such a SatGuru, such a great personage.
Kamsa could have been killed by a heart attack or even through an enemy. But these are the ways of the Lord-to become manifest with one objective and to accomplish many others for the good of humanity. The formless assumes form; the unborn gets born; the non-attached becomes everyone's close mate.

Wish you all a Very Happy Krishna Janmashtami.
