Maan may have been very attached to his mother. His mother could have been the typical Indian housewife, very docile and family oriented. His father may have fallen for Dev's mother, who was his employee and may have ill-treated his wife. Young Maan may have witnessed his mother taking everything silently and doing nothing about it but shed tears (the reason why he hates tears).
When Dev's mother got pregnant with him, Maan's mother could not take it any longer and first runs away from the house and later commits suicide. Maan is shattered and feels betrayed by his mother. He feels that she was a coward who did not face up to the problems and took the easy way out. He wanted her to stand up for herself but she didn't and instead left him motherless. Maybe this is why he got angry when inspite of his telling Geet to go against her brother and stand up for herself, she backed out (at least that is what he thinks). He hates it when he sees Geet give up because it is this defeatist mentality which had robbed him of his mother. He thinks all women are weak and untrustworthy. So he has locked the door to his heart till Geet came and forced it open. He is still trying to push the door shut but is slowly losing control as we see day by day.
Does this explanation for his weird behaviour appear plausible?
