I LOVE PRITAM'S SONGS!
I dont care if he plagiarizes, ALL Music directors from the time of Shankar Jaikishan, Salil Chaudhury etc have copied right and left from Western songs and even classical composers!
Even our great poet/composer, Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore used to copy his tunes from Western songs, like "Purano sheyi diner Kotha" he copied the tune from "Auld Lang Syne" and so many others too.

Here is a list of copied songs in Hindi movies from old times to modern:

Hindi Song: Haan Haan Yeh Pyaar Hai (Dillagi)
Music Director: Jatin-Lalit
Copied From: Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You (Frankie Valli)
Note: Direct lift from original, but sounds beautiful in Hindi.

Hindi Song: Dil Le Le Lena (Auzaar)
Music Director: Anu Malik
Copied From: Macarena (Los Del Rio)
Note: For all it's worth, Malik admits in the beginning of the
song that it's a copy.

Hindi Song: Dil Maka Dina (Dhaal)
Music Director: Anu Malik
Copied From: Macarena (Los Del Rio)
Note: Again?

Hindi Song: Tumne Jo Kaha (Laawaris)
Music Director: Rajesh Roshan
Copied From: Barbie Girl (Aqua)

Hindi Song: Koi Nahin Tere Jaisa (Keemat)
Music Director: Rajesh Roshan
Copied From: Cotton Eye Joe (Rednex)

Hindi Song: Tumhe Kaise Main Bataaoon (Dastak)
Music Director: Rajesh Roshan
Copied From: The Windmills Of Your Mind (The Thomas Crown Affair)

Hindi Song: Paayal Meri Jaadu (Rajkumar)
Music Director: Laxmikant-Pyarelal
Copied From: Faith (George Michael)

Hindi Song: Na Tum Bolo (Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge)
Music Director: Jatin-Lalit
Copied From: A Whole New World (Aladdin)

Hindi Song: Aisa Milan (Hameshaa)
Music Director: Anu Malik
Copied From: The Phantom Of The Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber)
Note: I find the Phantom song to be a much better
composition with a haunting tune.

Hindi Song: Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaaye (Jurm)
Music Director: Rajesh Roshan
Copied From: Five Hundred Miles (Peter, Paul, & Mary)

Hindi Song: Jaane Mujhe Kya Hua (Baazi)
Music Director: Anu Malik
Copied From: Fur Elise (Beethoven)

Hindi Song: Itna Na Mujhse Tu Pyar Badha(Chhaya)
Music Director: Salil Chowdhury
Copied From: Symphony No. 40 (Mozart)
Note: Indication that "inspired" tunes are nothing new in Hindi music.

Hindi Song: Chehra Tera Chehra (Daag - The Fire)
Music Director: Rajesh Roshan
Copied From: Theme from Titanic
Note: Stupid choice.

Hindi Song: Tum Kya Jaano (Aashiq)
Music Director: Sanjeev-Darshan
Copied From: Theme from The Godfather
Note: Another straight lift, but Sanjeev-Darshan's style gives it an edge
over the original.

Hindi Song: Koi Nahin Aisa (Dillagi)
Music Director: Jatin-Lalit
Copied From: Mony Mony (Tommy James and The Shondells)
Note: Again, a complete lift.

Hindi Song: Dil Dil Dil (Ittefaq)
Music Director: Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen
Copied From: La Copa De La Vida (Ricky Martin)

There is a full list of copied songs on this webpage, please check it out:

THEN WHY OH WHY IS PRITAM SINGLED OUT FOR HIS COPYING? 😲

90% Hindi movies are copied from Hollywood movies. How dare they point their fingers on Pritam then? Its like the pot calling the kettle black! 😡

I am glad you pointed at all these songs. I am not a fan of Pritam but I also wanted to say the same thing that plagiarism is something which existed even in olden times. Music directors like SD Burman and RD Burman have all resorted to copying (or inspiration) on one or more occasions. Of course it is much more notable today.

I read one article in the newspaper 'Hindustan Times' regarding this issue where the writer tells the readers to call our composers as music producers. Here is the link.

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Let-s-call-them-music-producers-please/Article1-543754.aspx

Do read the article.

So question I want to ask here is do we now stop calling SD Burman, RD Burman and Salil Chowdhary as legends? I am sure when Pritam becomes 60 years old the next generation will call him as legend.

@ Brahmabul and Pallavi...I agree with everything u said ..but the reason it was not noticeable then including Anu Malik's numbers during 80s and early nineties was the absence of internet specailly youtube and awareness of Bollywood among Asians ( meant Koreans, Chinese, Thaiis et al) ...in fact around the world ...
Nowadays, Pritam's songs get appreciated all over the world...hence these "inspirations" get revealed ....
But I agree that composers had been inspired by songs long before Pritam came to bollywood...
However ...Many songs I loved in recent years have been composed by Pritam...and some original Pritam songs are wonderful and proves that he is extremely talented ..
Here is one such song................

Thanks for the link! I will check it out for sure.
If u go thru the copied links page, there are very few songs by SD or RD.
S.D. Burman was truly a LEGEND, he was inspired by folk music of India. He took his tunes from the boaters songs (Bhatiali), Bihu (Assam) Santhali, Baul all these different folk genres of rural India.
RD was a genius, but he was very much "inspired" by Western music and he started the modern fusion music revolution, east meets west kind of songs.
My point is everyone copies, then why do people nowadays single out Pritam Da for plagiarism?

You are right on target! Its becuz of the Internet!
Plagiarism was practised by music directors for last 5 decades but nobody noticed it much. Internet and popularity of Bollywood songs and movies abroad has made it more noticable. Thats why they say too much knowledge is not good! 😆
As for me, I LOVE Pritam's songs! Whether original or copied, I love most of them!
I have made entire CDs just of his songs!
Gangster, Metro, Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani, Race, JWM I love all of their songs!

Pritam plagiarises a lot more than others. The greats you've pointed out before would lift a melody line or one particular 'technique' in a son - they were actually 'inspired' and not directly lifting the whole song as a whole - something pritam has done a lot of times.

Althugh I like pritam, it's important to be realistic about how much other md's have plagiarised...

I agree with all of you, about the copying thing. But still I can't stop myself from liking his songs.

"Jab We Met" is my most favourite album from Pritam. 😊

Another thing about Pritam which is worth appreciating is that, he has given many newcomers or reality show contestants chance to do playback singing. He has given opportunities to singers like Monali thakur, Tarun sagar, Antara, Anwesha, yashita, etc. Even Neeraj shridhar an underated singer gave so many superhit songs under pritam last year.
