It was Contemporary with Indo-fusion, as Rani had explained in her posts in some threads. But what Indo-fusion was it really?! I know many members have no clue about the different dance forms in India, from each region and state... So my explanation may not make you understand, but I want to do my part, and I am sure some people will get a clearer picture!!
First of all, I love that song - I have been hearing that since a kid, and each time I hear it, my heart beats so fast and patriotism spirit rushes to my whole body and I feel like I am in a different world... It makes me feel so happy and proud, and nostalgic too... Those who have paid attention to that song - each stanza represents a state in India - the lyrics are in that state's language, and on TV they show scenes from that particular state... So the song contains all the national languages in one - representing India as a whole and its unity with diversity!! Now enough explanation of the song - but this is required for the explanation of Shakti's dance.
Shakti did dance steps representing each state that came up in the song - either it was done as steps from a prominent dance form of that state, or shown as the popular sport or art of that particular state. Watch it carefully, and watch the dance steps and changes with each stanza - she moves from one state to another and her dance moves also changed accordingly... She had several Indian classical and folk forms mixed in it, and for Kerala she showed the famous snake boat race - Vallamkali done during Onam season, same as Pulikali done mainly during Onam!! Oh how I felt so much at home for that few seconds!!
I think this will help many to understand the real theme and concept followed in her dance and rather than foul mouthing her and putting her down, be proud of your nation for a minute and see how much diversity we carry and yet we all watch the same show outside all the regional boundaries!!
