Shabbir Kumar returns with Housefull
The legendary singer Shabbir Kumar returns from oblivion, thanks to director Sajid Khan, in the much-awaited film Housefull.

The singer, who has lent his voice to the biggest stars in the 1980s, is back. His song I Don't Know What To Do in the film is already rocking the charts.

Speaking about his 'comeback' track, Kumar says, "I feel very honoured that Sajid (Khan) called me. I guess he, Arbaaz Khan and Salman Khan like my work. They always tell me, 'I am your biggest fan' whenever they meet me. So, one day, I got a call from Sajid. He said, 'Can you please come to the studio in half an hour?' So, I thought maybe it was for some stage show or something. I wasn't expecting a song. When I got to the studio, he told me that the music for his movie was being composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and he wanted me to sing one song in the film. And before we knew it, we were laughing and joking around, and we recorded the song in one take."

For those who may not know, Shabbir Kumar was one of the most in-demand singers in the 1980s and early 1990s. In fact, he was so much in demand for stage shows that he had to put playback singing on the back burner for very long. His fan following was so huge that he was often called the successor to Mohammad Rafi in Bollywood.

"I complete 30 years in Bollywood now. And I consider myself very lucky and blessed for all the love I have received. I got a chance to sing for Amitabh Bachchan, Mithunda,
Govinda, Sunny Deol. And when they would go on tours around the world, they would insist that I come along, and I would think it an honour to be asked. So, I never said no. And that's how I wasn't here to sing in Bollywood for so long. So, I am very blessed that even today, people remember me and directors like Sajid want me to sing for them," says the senior singer.

Along with Housefull, Shabbir Kumar is also working on his album. That, interestingly, is going to be a complete family affair. "My son, Dilshad, is a composer. He sang the theme song for Blue. And now, he is composing music for an album that I am singing in, along with my two daughters, who are good singers too. So, yes, the entire family is a part of the album. It should be out soon," informs Kumar.

Shabbir Kumar's hit songs

Shabbir Kumar was acknowledged as a leading playback singer with the film Betaab. Music director Rahul Dev Burman got him to sing all the five songs for Sunny Deol. Also, in 1983, Coolie was released, in which Laxmikant Pyarelal had given him all the seven songs, six for Amitabh Bachchan and one for Rishi Kapoor.

Some of his most noted numbers were:
Jab Hum Jawan Honge from
Betaab
Zindagi Har Kadam Ek Nayi
from Meri Jung
Saari Dooniya ka Bojh from Coolie
Gori Hai Kalaiyaan from Aaj Ka Arjun
