Finally watched and have to say it is nothing special. Many reviews have mentioned the gigantic loopholes and boy are there many. So it is kind of pointless to go over each one. These kinds of mistakes can be overlooked in a Singh is Kinng, but I was under the impression that this was supposed to be an intelligent and gritty thriller. But I found it to be neither. The basic premise is very similar to New York. I never thought I would say this, but I think New York had fewer holes and WTF moments in its screenplay than Kurbaan.

The only things that prevent the film from being an epic failure are the performances and the staging in general. If not in the actual story, then atleast in the treatment the film manages to create a few moments of genuine suspense. The performances too are good and that is one thing that makes this film slightly better than New York.

The romance between Ehsaan and Avantika, however, does not work at all because its development is unconvincing. As is Ehsaan's last minute change of heart or Avantika's turmoil towards the end of the film. Where was this "love story" with blood on it? I felt nothing for the principal characters' personal dilemna towards the end of the film.

Also some asinine dialogue, that Vivek's character has to spout out like "Iraq's a mess" or "It looks like a typical case of domestic abuse" in his rather shaky American accent, make for some comic moments. The film on a very basic level was a shabbily made thriller that only works occasionally because of the performances (mostly by Vivek and Kareena) and the borderline manipulative background score.

i saw the movie on friday, i live away from home on uni, so i had to wait one week to see it in theatres cuz i went home this past weekend onli...as soon as i reached toronto, my brother came to pick me up from the bus terminal...he put my luggage in the car trunk, and we headed str8 to AMC loll...i called my mom and dad to tell em that ive reached, and ill see them at home after 3 hours..
the AMC we went to (in woodbridge) was hugeee...and even after 1 week of the release of the movie, the theatre was half full, with all sorta of ppl...most were indians, but there were many white ppl, philipinos, and a whole row of africans teenage boys (who took up the back row, piss off!! LOL)
i ended up really liking the movie...there were many loopholes and if i was to critically analyze it, i wud find so much retardedness....but besides all that...i enjoyed it....the begining of the movie was basically just a filler...but the shukran allah song was beautiful :) once they reached usa, and moved into their new house...thas wen the thrill started..
i loveddddddddddddd bebo's performance...i dont know if it was her best performance till date or not...but it was definitely one of the best...it was very real...for me, she was the most powerful character of the movie...
next was kiron kher...my god, that woman blows me away everytime...she was fabulous in her role...i love how she always gets into the skin of the character and performs it with perfection...
saif was amazing as well...he gave a powerful performance as well...but it wasnt anything exceptional...he cudve done alot better, his character became "dheela" in the 2nd half...wen the movie moved its focus to bebo and vivek's plan....but i loved his last scene in the subway train with bebo...nicee!!
vivek did a good job too...but his fake american acccent made me cringe at times...loll...
the story was abit week tho....i mean....it was more focussed on bebo and saif's love story, and how he uses her, and den falls in love with her, and den bebo trying to stop him and watnot....if they had shown more on WHY saif became a terrorist, it wudve been more impactful...it was just mentioned that he had a wife and son who were killed...but we cudnt connect with it, we cudnt connect with saif's side of the story....so as many reviews said, the soul of the movie was missing, i agree with that too...
technically, i thut they made a well movie...i dont noe too much about technicalities and all...but i liked the different angles the camera shot at...and i loved the zoom in part on kareena's face rite at the end...
im not gonna bother getting into the bad thing about the movie..i left all those in the theatre, and walked out with a go satisfaction...
while walking out, i took a quick glance at all the people in the movie theatre....i cudnt believe my eyes at how many ppl were wiping their tears at the end....half of the ppl, honestly......there was a white couple who were wiping their tears as well...and surprisingly the full row of teenage african boys who were sitting at the back row, they were there till the very end as well...
many years down the line, when ill think of the movie kurbaan, kareena's performance will be the first thing i will remember...

MEGHA YOU MADE MY DAY!!
You know it was an attempt at something yaar. I know it had faults, and definitley a lot of em, but honeslty, its a such a good movie!
Yeah I saw some ppl crying as well, lol.
Me a lil bit too, hehe.
The thing is this.
You talked about the soul of the movie,a nd I agree.
And I feel the reason is that it tried ot have a love story AND a thriller at the same time, and hence the focus kept shifting.
On the contrary i feel they should have developed Ehsaan and Avantika's love story more. Let hte audiences really FEEL that Ehsaan loved her. And let em feel why Kareean loved him back. I mean they kinda just showed, they met, drank coffee, shukran allah, got married, moved to the U.S and boom, next scene crazy stuff started happening. In between allt his, their relationship just kinda got lost. After reality hits, they dont really show that Avantika loves Ehsaan anymore. She hates him, which is normal. And they show Ehsaan trying to reach out ot her,yet at the same time, he's conflicted as well.
So they shoudl ahve had some momentst hat showed the relatoinship betweent he two and how their love is still strong.

its funny how the foreign people can be sooo much impacted by a below-average indian movie in terms of content

Below average in your opinion. Other ppl may not have felt hte same. And you cant say that foreigners woudl be impacted because they watch HOLLYWOOD movies on a regular basis. So woudlnt you expect them to be more critical if the movie was below average in terms of content. Perhaps they didnt let the loopholes bother them all that much.

and maybe they shud've not just shown random peole bombing and killing but actually focused on sumthing? focused on islam?? focused more on terrorism and wat causes it?? and i agree with the early review that vivek's accent was forced
