Carving a Rishta

Like many I was saddened by today's episode. Yet another obstacle for Ra-Dev. But there is a comforting predictability in that this will probably be resolved by next week,

What I can't get out of my mind is that sinister episode of yesterday.

I saw a theme yesterday, that of the wrist and what encircles it.

Earlier this week we saw Dev want to buy the bangles for Rads for various romantic reasons. In fact he made the point several times that he wants her to wear them. While not expensive, they seem to have a symbolism of binding her to him. He want visual proof that his love encircles her and that she is bound to him.

I was disturbed to see Rads cutting her wrist in that thin bloody line. That long cut reminded me of a bangle. This bangle of blood is important. First it symbolizes the love that she has for her father. Her life she will give for her father's honor. But then as she cuts her wrist, she is in fact binding herself to Daksh. We do not know what he will come back and ask for, but certainly it will be big. The carving of her body becomes a symbol of her love for her father and the future price that she will have to pay. Indeed she has carved this future relationship on her body. She is unwillingly bound to Daksh.

It scared me. We know that when Amma tried to make Rads remove the sindoor, Rads cuts her head and that blood becomes her sindoor, evidence of her lifelong bond with Dev. What about this new Rishta in blood?

Also later of course Rads is not able to produce the bangles when she meets Dev. Her wrists are bare except for her earlier cutting. While she promised to Dev that she will wear them next time, there is still something missing here. It is disapointing for us and Dev. I wanted Dev's love as symbolizes by the bangles to adorn and cover the earlier trauma on Rad's wrist. I wanted to see his love envelop and protect her. But Rad's wrists are bare making the viewer remember what happened earlier to her wrists as well as of course remember what appears to be her residual discomfort around Vish

Finally when Vaishali tries to tie the string around Dev's wrist, he refuses it. Dev of course will not be burdened by any societal fear or pressure. He has his love for Radhika and that guides him like a clear compass. I thought it was important that Dev refuses to be bound to anything that takes him away from the purity of his and Rad's love

I am worried about what Rads has promised away. Daksh wanted Shastriji's good deeds. This is a strangely invasive taking, as if he wanted Shastriji's soul. Will he want Radhika's as well?

JP, great post! i think the significance of the bare wrists scene was for dev to understand Radhika and the situations she faces, as he himself said- he misjudged the situation once and he won't do so again...

this holds importance for not just that particular situation but also in the future when the truth comes out..he hopefully won't misjudge her.

I too am worried about what Radhika has promised, the sinister look in Munshi's eyes was as though this will be a promise that will be asked for....so I am very worried (on top of the list of all the other problems!)

JP : How you manage to see such beautiful themes... in this inanity I will never know..

Yes Daksha will ask for Rads soul - I have no doubt of it...Rads will have to betray Dev at a critical juncture to fulfill this promise...

I too am worried about the munshi/Daksh angle. I'm hoping he asks for their firstborn child or something because at least they'll be able to tackle that issue together. I don't want Rads lying to Dev and doing things for Daksh behind Dev's back.

JP wow, another wonderful analysis, I don't think the Creatives thinking is at your level... You take it up another notch... I wonder how it would be if you were take up writing professionaly... something modern but based on our age old scriptures...

^^ I truly hope they drop Daksh track like they did with the Ashram track. But than there is no free lunch and Daksh angle unfortunately has put unnecassary financial burden on Shastri family which will have to be paid with blood and soul which spells major trouble for Dev and it won't go away soon I am afraid. I hope I am dead wrong.

With all that is good with Radhika, she needs to realise that one doesn't make promises that are akin to giving out signed blank cheques. Innocence is not a virtue. But than when it comes to Dev, Radhika is more arrogant and ignorant than innocent.

One just wishes that Radhika will someday use the same determination she has for Shastri family and use it to protect and benefit Dev and his love for her.

Really sometimes when I read her posts I feel that I am watching something so deep and mystical....makes me forget the indifference I now feel watching the actual show.....

I have NO doubt that NONE of these creatives are even capable of thinking at this kind of level...

In fact if they are visiting this forum they are probably surprised ...'Wow these people are thinking soo deeply about our show 😛....I think they would be shocked and embarrassed at thier own shallow "creativity"...

Do you think the creative were actually thinking of this motif of 'encircling the wrist' - the bangles, the cut on the wrist ... the tabeez... Or was it just a coincidence and JP with her brilliant gift to see things beyond the obvious were able to spot this connection and weave this theme ?

Agreed Kuku, JP does indeed take it up several notches... you know the way they churn out these serials, I don't think there is any major thinking going on... more reaction to problem than solutions... I see all this SBB etc. only about the lead characters... would love to see some writers, behind scenes etc. get interviewed, so we can understand their point of view...

I have a feeling that chudiya scene was to show one more level of Dev's character on how he wants to understand Radh completely.. and even though he just drove all this way from Delhi to just look at the bangles on her hand he could not see them.. It was like the symbol of his love on her hand. As it was to declare that Radh loves him as much he loves her? It was such a big disappointment to him.. but he grew out of it.. It was wonderful to see that they both help each other to come out of those very intense moments.. and he just left it at that? understanding her love more deeply & being more confident in his love that even though she did not wear those bangles but her love for him is as strong with or without the symbol of his love.. another level for him to attain..

When Dev gave those bangles to Radh through babuji.. I was thinking it odd that he gave a gift to his beloved through babuji. But now I understand the significant of those.. and may be there is some more to come....

But I do think that the way Munshiji told Babuji and the way he took promise from Radh.. the entry of this daksh character will have some significant in Radh's life.. But I do not think it is going to harm her or her relationship with Dev.

Per her promise Radh will wear those bangles because she knows that for Dev voh chudia bahot mayne rakhti hai..

I am hoping with Dev that next time he sees her..her both hand will be covered with bangles... and the tmosphere will be full of its tinkles.. with just a little gestures from Radh...... 😊
