Story So Far...

August
Manubai is introduced, she lives with her father, Moropant. She runs off in the morning to the akhada, where Nana Sahib can't defeat Tatya Tope. She defeats Tatya Tope in a swrod fight. The English are taking over India and most Indians couldn't do anything against them, when Manubai got annoyed. One day, Manu sees an English man beating a servant as he doesn't not let him get on Nana's horse. Manu gets angry and beats the English man and everyone stops here and begs her to say sorry and she doesn't.

Vahini Sahib punishes her to remember some shloks in a small amount of time and she remembers them, suprising Vahini Sahib. Bajirao forgives Manu and tells Manu to say sorry to the English. She only will say sorr if the English man would say sorry to the servant and the English man disagrees. Vahini Sahib tells Moropant to get Manu married and Bajirao says Manu and Moropant will live in the palace from now on.

Manu has made some deadly arrows, which can blow things up once shot and shows Nana. A dasi sees the arrows and tells Vahini Saheb. When everyone from the Palace hear bomb blasts, they gather to see and Vahini Saheb tells them Manu made the arrows. There is one arrow left and Nana uses it on his horse, his horse gets scared and runs off, leaving Nana to fall off with his foot still trapped in a buckle. Nana is dragged and falls off a cliff. Manu helps him up and takes him to the Palace. Everyone is upset to see Nana in this state and Manu is blamed.

The English warn Bajirao that this shouldn't happen again and threaten to stop his pension. Manu is banned by her father not to go to training and tells Vahini Sahib to train her in the kitchen. Nana gets better and Maina Bai decides to give away Nana's weight in Gold. Everybody finds out Manu saved Nana and Tatya asks if she can join training again. She is allowed.

Nana gets to ride on an Elephant and mocks Manu as she can't, but she gets angry. Bajirao gives a special dagger to Nana to gift Manu and they become friends again. Moropant shows an astrologer Manu's kundali and finds out she will be a Queen one day. Bajirao and everyone at the palace go to bathe at Ganga's Ghat, when another Brahmin comes and says it is his place. Manu gives him an answer that astounds him and the Brahmin goes away.

Ek Veer Stree ki Kahaani... Jhansi Ki Rani

It's a story of an ordinary girl who went on to become an extraordinary ruler. Her defiance against the British is exemplary even today. The fervour that she aroused gave birth to various leaders and revolutionaries who finally freed our nation from the British. Through this venture, Zee TV attempts to bring forth the various facets of this remarkable woman which are yet unknown to people. The Rani is shown as a mother, as a wife, as a daughter, as a warrior and essays all the roles with equal aplomb. The show is a tribute to her bravery, gallantry and patriotism.

Born as Manikarnika, Lakshmi Bai, also known as 'Manu' was the daughter of a Maharashtrian Brahmin Moropant Tambey from Varanasi. While the other girls of her age chose to do household chores, she played and defeated the local boys in muddy matches of kabaddi. She married Gangadhar Rao, who was the Raja of Jhansi, at a very tender age. It was after her husband's untimely demise, while she was still an adolescent that the agile Rani became a true warrior and an epitome of women's power in the country. In this historical tale, Zee TV attempts to portray how an ordinary woman became an extraordinary exponent of Indian freedom movement.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Nitin Vaidya, COO of ZEEL and Business Head of Zee TV said, "Rani Lakshmi Bai was an icon of the Indian Independence movement. The new show on ZEE TV will present it from an outlook that will definitely leave its audience inspired. It will talk about how a simple girl turned out to be a revolutionary by merely making difficult choices. In this time and age where shows are adopting western content to grab eyeballs, ZEE TV, the original architect of Indian TV entertainment has yet again broken clutter with a story of the famous Indian warrior told differently. The topic has been well researched and even the minutest of details have been borne in mind so as to capture the true essence of that era. I see the Rani as an inspiration to every woman of today, who wants to carve a niche for herself, while simultaneously taking care of her family. The topic is very much relevant in contemporary times, when women are being inflicted with so many atrocities. The show has been shot extensively across 4 states - Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with opulent sets and ostentatious presentations. Jhansi Ki Rani was an inspiration for the women of her times to make themselves stronger; a response she still does not fail to elicit."

Zee has always strived to be a guiding force and select topics which are not only pragmatic but also ingrained in our culture, ethos and tradition. By presenting the life story of Rani Lakshmi Bai on the eve of Independence Day, this is another step forward to preserve the rich custom and tradition of India.

The show is being produced by Contiloe Films and boasts of some established theatre and television personalities like Aruna Irani, Shailesh Datar, Ravindra Mankane, to name a few.
