That was interesting Vibhishna 😃

This also attracted my attention to your last question trendytalk and this is what I found:

Ganesha, Lakshmi and Saraswati usually are always shown together,.......symbolizing that Wealth must be accompanied by Intellect and Humility.

That was the best explanation, but here is another one:

The worship of Ganesh is the mandatory first worship in all rites and rituals. Worship of Mahalakshmi on Deepavali day has been customary for the business community for wealth and prosperity. This practice has expanded to all communities in course of time. However there is a legend that Goddess Mahalakshmi emanated from the ocean when the churning by deva and asura groups took place, on the Kartik Amavsya (Ashwin according to the Amaanta Panchanga).
The legend in Skanda Purana is that Lord Kartikeya (Subrahmanya/Murugan) married Valli, who was manas-putri of Vishnu. Hence Ganesh would be the brother of the son in law of Vishnu as per modern terminology. This legend is largely in vogue in Tamilnadu.
Another legend is that the Shiva- Parvati marriage in their emanation as Meenakshi and Sundareshwara took place in Madurai where Meenakshi was the princess and the Kanya-daan was performed by Vishnu, donning the role of elder brother. Hence for Ganesh Lakshmi would be 'maami'. This legend is still celebrated annually at Madurai, with all religious fervour.

Another legend is that in Krishnavatara, the previous child of Devaki and Vasudev was Yogmaya, an aspect of Goddess Parvati and hence Parvati and Vishnu are sister and brother. Thus Lakhmi being the consort of Vishnu would be 'maami'of Ganesh.

All legends in Puranas are to be taken for the essence conveyed.Mundane relationships shall not be transported celestially.
