Religion has often been interpreted in several ways . Often to suit a particular group. The stronger group then tries to impose it on other groups. Theres a popular saying in Hindi " Jiski lathi uski bhains " 😆

I think that Hinduism doesn't follow a single book, but is mostly based on "traditional beliefs" that have evolved (as it is one of the oldest religion being practiced today) due to many great thinkers and philosophers and thus stood the test of time.

In any case, similar to what you pointed out before, the problem is more of common sense, human rights and moral values. Even though "moral values" is a different and fundamental topic in itself, yet it is clear that World is moving forward towards better living conditions and a human life is valued more than what it used to be long time back.

On the other hand people like Taliban are moving things backwards.Though this is not due to their religion. In my opinion, people like Taliban are not specific to a single religion, but they will spoil any religion that they follow.

Though I don't really want this is happen because it will be catastrophic for the Pakistanis but I think they will realise their folly of soft-peddling Taliban once they take over Pakistan and impose their laws. Tab yahi log sochenge ki kash humne Taliban ke against action liya hota.

I agree 100% with what you said. Hinduism has no rigid norms (unless you are one of the Hindu crazies). The manusmriti illustration was merely to point out that you can never say never or absolutely with anything. Nothing is spotless or squeaky clean, that's why we as humans have to keep cleaning up and doing the best we can.

My previous post in this thread alluded to the importance of human rights and values. People may do wrong things in name of faith, tradition etc. It is the responsibility of people to speak up against what is wrong.

That being said Taliban = Crazies.
Flogging anyone is morally, humanely and ethically wrong. Same rule applies to every human.

100% positive on this one. Have had people pull this book on me when I argue Hinduism does not condemn homosexuality. However, as Karandel pointed out there are tons of different books followed in Hinduism, there really is no rigidity. This was just an illustration that there are negative Hindu aspects and some Hindu crazies will take such prescriptions literally in today's day and age. In that case it would be dutiful of everyone to speak against it.
