I have been an ardent follower of Balika Vadhu and like this show very much. It definitely conveys a very strong message to this generation about rural India.

After Gehna entered the picture, the show seems to have taken a different direction all together. But it left me thinking, are only Basant and Maasa to blame for Gehna's situation? I totally agree that Maasa did behave badly (read: cruelly) with Gehna and never thought twice before sending her to Basant's room.. But as she mentioned, she never forced Gehna into marrying Basant. She just wanted her son to be happy.. She didnt put anyone else before her son's happiness.. She was being a selfish mother.. But then, all mothers are...
I would blame Gehna's parents for all this. They have no excuse for what they forced upon Gehna. Her father could have happily said NO to Maasa when she offered money in return for Gehna's hand in marriage if he was half as caring a parent as Maasa was. But instead, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Even when he came to meet Gehna at her Sasural, he dint even for once ask how she is and what tempted her to behave the way Maasa accused her of.. Instead, both her parents wanted her to go through whatever Basant and Maasa force her to so that her siblings can get married easily.. Wasnt that selfish???
Instead of asking Basant, Gehna should have asked her father, " Apne umar ke aadmi se meri shaadi karvate huye sharam nahin aayi aapko"..
I really felt sorry for Basant when Gehna questioned him. He was atleast trying to be a caring husband.. Asking her how she is, getting her gifts etc unlike her parents..
I totally applaud Gehna for showing courage and standing up for herself.. But she should demand some answers from her parents too and not leave them thinking that they did her good by marrying her into a rich family.

Poverty makes a person go to any extremes, thats what happened with Gehna's parents besides they had other daughters too to take care of and also get them married. Agree what they did with Gehna was unfair, rather they sold her, so she should ask her parents too these questions. and coming to Basant, his approach wasn't correct. why did he force himself upon Gehna in the beginning ?? That trigerred Gehna to fight against her husband and mother-in-law. After all the atrocities commited on Gehna , basant's conscience is stirred, that too when she boldly questioned him otherwise he would still treat her as chattel.

When u have nothing to eat u can be forced to do anything. This is what caused Gehna's parents to force her into this marriage. I hope she stands up and takes a stance against maasa and Basant and lives upto it. What else can she do now that her parents have washed their hands off her, which is what happens when u have a couple of younger siblings besides living in abject poverty.

I agree with aerian, now as Gehna have got the courage to speak against Maasa and Basant so she should ask this question to her parents also... tht just for some money and well thinking of her other sisters why did they sold her.... didnt they feel ashamed of doing this....

Then i too agree tht when u dont have any money to eat and to clear ur debts then u do anything.. but then too u shd think twice.. tht u r selling ur daughter and tht too to a person who is his of father's age
