Good movie but knowing what Oscar-snobs like, this won't make it! Sorry TZP-lovers (which includes me!)

Indian Films never win because they always have better competition than TZP and rest of the film. it doesn't snob. remember last year, when Mehta's Water went and everyone was like they can't send it.. but it went as a canadian film. bollywood snobs more 😛

Who is sitting in the jury? Why are they sending mainstream Hindi movies since couple of years? What happened to good regional cinema.....Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam?
I don't think TZP stands any chance winning. It doesn't exactly deal with the issue. It is more of a melodrama with that touching 'Ma' song. It was a good movie for Bollywood not for rest.
Our sentiments are different than the ones who judge Academy Awards. I think the Marathi film which was competing with TZP would have been the better choice. Anyways.....

Exactly. Also if one is sending a film for awards, then one should be well aware of the criteria of judgement. Hollywood which has seen movies like Rainman won't have any impact with a melodramatic TZP. As I said good for Bollywood sensibility.

agreed. and seriously speaking Marathi, Bengali and Malayalam Which I have watched couple of films are pretty good in stories than bollywood movies. their regional films are like Indie films to me. better than bollywood's garma garam masala films. but than it depends on one's taste of movies.

Critically acclaimed Marathi film "Tingya", a sensitive portrayal of a six-year-old boy's love for his bull in backdrop of Maharashtra's agrarian crisis, will be sent as an independent entry to this year's Oscars 2009 in the foreign language category.

"Tingya", which has won 37 awards including five at the international festivals, lost out to Aamir Khan's "Taare Zameen Par" when a Film Federation of India (FFI) jury chose the latter as India's official entry to the Academy.

Producer of "Tingya" Ravi Rai said he will apply independently. Rai also made it clear that he bore no ill will towards the FFI jury or Aamir's film.
