Ian: "You have these two people, that could not be more different. There's a man who's 170 years old, who's a murderous…killing machine and then this beautiful, young woman, who is trying to hang on. Trying to survive. Making the best out of every single moment and being a hero and a saviour to everyone around her and selflessly doing almost everything she does."
Nina: "She's just been through so much, she like 'All I wanna do, is close my eyes and crash. Too many vampires. Too much running. Too much is happening, just leave me alone. Please!' And he wont let up. So he's talking and moving and she's getting frustrated and eventually she's like 'Whatever. I'm crashing.' It turned from one frustrated tense moment to very sweet, sort of simple..human connection that we kind of don't see from Elena and Damon all that often."
Ian: "They have this one moment where they connect. And it's palpable, it's sweet. And it was something that I think people where waiting to see."
Nina: "It also showed the growing comfort and the growing friendship and connection between Elena and Damon. They've always been pushed and pulled, they've always had this chemistry and they've always had this tension. She's always fighting it. Sometimes when you try to fight something that you don't want it to happen, the more and more you resist it, the more the tension builds and Elena and Damon's relationship is a prefect example of that, they are constantly at each others throats, they are constantly bickering and fighting, but it's because they sort of love each other in a way and that's their way of expressing it. Because they can't express it through love, they express it through frustration and sort of hatred in ways. Going back and watching the episode, it was a very beautiful, real moment, that they are just kind of co-existing and being intimate, without being intimate. Which is really cool."
