"It turned from one frustrated, tense moment to a very sweet, sort of simple human connection that we don't see from Elena and Damon all that often. It also showed the growing comfort and the growing friendship connection between Damon and Elena. They've always been push-and-pull, they've always had this chemistry and they've always had this tension, but she's always fighting it. And sometimes when you try to fight something and you don't want it to happen, the more and more you resist it, the more and more the tension builds and Elena and Damon's relationship is a perfect example. They're constantly at each other's throats, they're constantly fighting and bickering, but it's because they sort of love each other in a way and that's their way of expressing it, because they can't express it through love, so they express it through frustration.
