@rtms, well, there are so many! In the direction of Thrillers, I'd recommend Michael Robotham; I liked him. If you don't mind a bit more depressing book, The Book Thief is nice, as well. As for Fantasy, Harry Potter is classic, of course. A song of ice and fire is also classic although, it's not for everyone due to mass-character-deaths and it's pretty dark. I have heard a lot of good about Brandon Sanderson whose Elantris I just ordered. And the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan is nice if you like Greek myths although, it does target youths. If you like horror, try out Stephen King he writes well but I still won't read him... not my taste.
