Perhaps I enter this forum for your reviews and story Neet <3
All we wanted in the show was this one revelation. Everything over! Happy ending :D
Alas, it didn't happen and our SC knows why.
Thank You for sharing this update which we all desperately wanted. I wanted to read it somewhere that Mantu will erase the name or any mark of Uma from his life. ❤️

Hola everyone!

Back with an update! Thank you so much for all the appreciation for the previous updates! You guys are awesome!

I've stopped watching the show and normally when I stop watching a show I give up writing about it too. But this story has just been haunting me and every once in a while, the songs Hasi, Moh Moh ke dhaage and laal ishq pop up on my playlist and I can't help but think of Mantu and Amaya and what could've been and then I can't help but write. And I've been getting so many ideas for this storyline, that it looks like this one is going to turn into an FF pretty soon. Now that we know for sure that the makers of the show have so shamelessly made a fool of us by lying through their teeth that this was a dream sequence, and we are all gutted (at least I am.. The last time a show gave me so much heartbreak was DMG2 and Saubhagyavati bhava.. *sigh*), hopefully this update/story will give all of us some relief.

Do let me know how you like it/hate it.

Cheers,

Neet

Chapter 4

Mantu woke up to the sound of incessant knocking on his door. When had he fallen asleep? What time was it? He looked around and realized he was still in the courtyard of his house and had fallen asleep leaning on his charpaayi. It was 5 in the evening. How had he slept for so long? Then he remembered the events of the previous night. How had he not seen the truth about Uma before? How could he have been so blind? And he had hurt Amaya so much in the process. How would he ever apologize to her and make it up to her? His thoughts were interrupted by knocking on the door again. He opened the front door to find Rama at his door, with the widest smile ever on his face.

"Mantu! Where were you? I've been trying your phone for so long but there was no answer. So I decided to come check myself. And I've been knocking on your door for so long! Are you alright? You don't look too good? Are you ill?" Rama asked. "No.. Its nothing. I.. I just fell asleep," Mantu said. "That's weird. You must be catching something. Why would you sleep during the day otherwise?" Rama asked. "How are you here? Aren't you supposed to be resting at home?" Mantu asked. "I have such good news to tell you that I just couldn't wait," Rama replied beaming. "Good news? What good news?" Mantu asked. "You have to come with me first," Rama replied. "But where?" Mantu asked. "Where, when, what, how? Oh God! You ask so many questions. I will answer everything but for now, just come with me!" Rama said as he dragged a reluctant Mantu with him.

***

A few minutes later, they were standing front of the Mathur Haveli. "Rama.. What are we doing here?" Mantu asked worried. He wasn't ready just yet to face Amaya. What would he say to her? "Now listen to the good news.. Its time for you to fulfill your promise," Rama said. "Promise? What promise?" Mantu asked confused. "Did you forget already? You promised me that you would take over the entire responsibility of arranging my wedding!" Rama reminded him. "Yes I did, but that was if Rachita said that she loves you and agreed to marry you," Mantu said. Rama gave Mantu a knowing smile and Mantu realized that Rachita had probably said yes to marrying Rama. But, wasn't she missing last night? Where had she gone? And didn't Amaya say that Rachita had been angry at Rama before leaving the house? Then what had happened overnight that Rachita suddenly agreed to marry Rama? Mantu wondered. Before he could talk to Rama at all about this, the door to the Mathur haveli opened and Amaya appeared.

Their eyes met and Mantu knew without a shred of doubt that she too had been crying all night. Her gorgeous, innocent, doe-like eyes were reddish and puffy.

I am sorry Amaya. I am so very sorry about everything. You were right. It was my fault that I didn't have more faith in you despite the fact that I love you so very much. It shouldn't have mattered to me whether you loved me or not. Your presence in my life as a friend should have mattered to me more than my ego. Will you ever be able to forgive me? Will you ever be able to love me? I don't even know if I deserve your love anymore. Mantu thought, his eyes brimming with unshed tears as he kept searching Amaya's eyes for forgiveness. Her expression, her eyes, remained rather blank as she looked at him. But she had a welcoming smile plastered on her face for Rama as she averted her gaze from Mantu.

"Rama? How are you here?" Amaya asked. "Saali saheba, may I come in?" Rama asked in turn. "Sure. Sure. Please do," Amaya said as she stepped away from the door and let them in. Rama stepped in and turned to find Mantu still standing at the door step, his gaze fixed on Amaya. "Mantu, come on in!" he ushered Mantu in with a hand at his elbow.

"I want Mantu to do all the arrangements for the wedding," Rama announced happily to the Mathur-Chaubey family that had gathered in the living room to welcome Rama. Out of the corner of his eye, Mantu saw the look of displeasure on Gajanand Chuabey's face. "What is the need for that Rama? We have so many people here. And we have Rudra too. We will manage," Chaubeyji said. "Nanaji, Mantu is my best friend. We have known each other since childhood. He is like my brother and I really want him to do all the arrangements for my wedding," Rama persisted. Noting the cold vibes between her dad and Mantu, Sneha jumped in before the situation could get any more awkward. "Okay beta. Mantu can do all the arrangements for the wedding. After all, he has become a part of our family too now," Sneha said, smiling fondly at Mantu. Mantu stole a glance at Amaya at that. She was avoiding meeting his gaze and stood with her gaze fixed on the floor as if this conversation had nothing to do with her whatsoever. "And Amaya will help you with all the arrangements, right Amu?" Sneha added as she looked towards Amaya. Amaya looked up with a startle. "Me? Why me mom? I mean, what help can I do?" Amaya asked. "Arey, a wedding is about to take place, there will be hundreds of things that need to get done. I am sure Mantu can use whatever help he can get, right Mantu beta?" Sneha asked Mantu. Mantu had his gaze fixed on Amaya as he nodded his head. Maybe this was Mahadev's way of giving him a second chance, to be near Amaya, to win her trust back and her love too. "Yes Auntyji," he replied. Amaya finally met his gaze at that but looked away immediately before saying, "Okay mom."

When Mantu went over to the Mathur haveli later that night to set up the lighting, the house was strangely quiet. Kripa Kaka informed him that the women of the house had gone to do some shopping and the men of the house had gone to make other arrangements. Mantu quietly went about setting up the lights to decorate the house. Since the two houses had been combined, there was a lot of work to be done and Mantu was so engrossed in his work that he did not realize when the women came back from shopping. He was fixing the lights upstairs, when the tape slipped from his hand and rolled inside a room. He went into the room and realized it was Amaya's. He was searching for the roll of tape when he heard footsteps. Not wanting to be caught looking like he was being sneaky, he hid beneath the bed.

"Amu! Take these dresses and try them on. I am going to ask Rachu and Jazz to try their dresses on too. If there is any problem in fitting, we will have to take it to Barfi miyaan first thing in the morning. Or else, we won't get it back in time for all the functions, okay?" Sneha said as she handed over shopping bags to Amu. "Okay mom," Amaya said as she got into the room and shut the door.

He should leave. It wouldn't be right of him to stay here knowing what she was about to do. Should he let her know of his presence? Would she scream and let the whole house know? He wasn't in Gajanand Chaubey's good books to begin this. This would only worsen the situation. And he did not want any drama in Rama's marriage. And he didn't want to mess up this chance to be near Amaya. He decided to stay put and closed his eyes.

He heard the opening of bags, the swoosh of fabric, the opening or closing of zippers and the soft hussle of her feet as she moved about the room and he waited with bated breath. When the sounds died down, he opened one eye and peeked. She stood in front of the mirror in a gorgeous white chiffon saree with stones and silver embroidery paired with a yellow blouse. He felt as though his heart had literally stopped beating. He had never seen a sight more beautiful in his life. She looked as beautiful, as pure, as divine as the Ganga Ghat on a full moon night. She had no makeup on, no jewelry on and yet, she was breathtakingly beautiful. How could he ever stop looking at her? She did a little twirl in front of the mirror and said, "Perfect."

The smile on her lips died slowly though and she turned away from the mirror. "What's the point Mahadev? What's the point in me picking out these clothes and looking beautiful? The only one I want to look beautiful for.. Mantu.." she paused and Mantu felt his heart lodge in his throat. "Will we ever be able to cross these distances between us Mahadev? How will I fight my fate to get him Mahadev, when he doesn't even trust me? And if this wasn't meant to be, then why did You let me win that Amar Jodi race? Why did You give me hope that my mannat of getting Mantu would be fulfilled? Maybe You were trying to tell me that I wouldn't get Mantu. Maybe that's why I fell. Maybe that's why despite taking that shortcut and reaching the mandir first, Mantu still did not complete the Pooja with me. But I couldn't give up Mahadev. Despite all those signs, I couldn't give up. Because I loved him so much. I love him so much. Now, knowing that things have gone so horribly wrong between us, when I think I can maybe live with this heartache for the rest of my life, now he is going to be here Mahadev. He'll be in this house and my eyes will search for him everywhere I go, my heartbeat will seek him out in the midst of all these other people and my silly heart will keep hoping that maybe things will work out between us. How do I deal with this pain? Why does love bring so much pain?" Amaya said as she sat on the bed and sobbed.

Mantu's own eyes filled up with tears. He was about to give up hiding and come out from under the bed without worrying about the consequences and hug her when a knock on the door snapped him out of his trance.

"Amaya! Did you try on the clothes? Come look how gorgeous Rachita is looking in her outfit for the haldi," Sneha called out to Amaya.

Amaya quickly wiped away her tears and got up from the bed. "Mahadev," she whispered, "Please give me enough strength to make sure that Rachi di's marriage happens without any drama and trouble, especially not because of me. You already know what circumstances this marriage is happening in. Give all of us the strength to go through this." Amaya finished her prayer just as Sneha knocked again. "Yes Mom. I am coming." She opened the door and Sneha's smile froze in place as she looked at Amaya. "What happened Mom? Am I not looking good?" Amaya asked, looking down to see if she had majorly messed up tying her saree. "You are looking gorgeous beta!" Sneha said, her eyes getting moist. "When did you and Rachita grow up? I feel like just yesterday you were running all around the house in your little dresses. And now look at you, you are looking no less beautiful than the bride to be! We are going to have start looking for a boy for you too pretty soon." Amaya smiled at Sneha but said nothing though as soon as Sneha had mentioned about looking for a boy for her, her heart had thudding to the rhythm of Mantu's name. Mantu heard the conversation from where he was hiding underneath the bed and thought what Sneha Aunty would think if she found her future son-in-law hiding beneath her daughter's bed? "How did you learn to tie a saree by the way?" Sneha asked. Amaya held up her phone and said, "YouTube zindabad!" Sneha laughed and said, "Well done! Now come look at Rachita. She looks so beautiful in her outfit for the haldi" and dragged Amu with her.

Mantu came out from underneath the bed. Amaya loved him and loved him so much. It was for him that she had taken that shortcut in the Sharavan Puja race. It was for him. She loved him more than she loved her life. Mantu turned to look at the idol of Mahadev that he had gifted and Amaya had placed carefully next to her bedside. "Mahadev! What good deed have I done in life that you have blessed me with Amaya's love?" he asked, his eyes tearing up. "And what kind of an idiot am I that I never realized how much she loved me and let my ego come in between us? Please Mahadev! Now that you have given me a second chance to be with her, please help me win her love back," Mantu prayed earnestly before stepping out of the room and heading out the house.
