I had a big ear to ear smile while reading this chapter...
The best thing that could happen is Mantu overhearing Amaya talk about her love for him...
How can't the CVs show something like this... 😳
It was amazing... You just know what we need right now - ManYa and ManYa 😉
Keep writing... It is the ManYa magic that has kept you tied with continuing with the SS 😃
Thanks for the PM and continue soon... 😊

Chapter 5

"Mantu! I really want to meet Rachitaji! Please help me," Rama urged Mantu who was busy with the decorations for the haldi ceremony that was about to happen. "Rama! The haldi ceremony is about to start. And you know before that it's a girls only song and dance ceremony. We can't go there!" Mantu told Rama. "Are you my friend or foe? Can you not help me with something so simple? Please Mantu?" Rama pleaded. "Rama! You are getting married to her in two days. You'll see her for the Sangeet tomorrow. Can you not wait?" Mantu asked. "You've never been in love na, that's why you don't understand my desperation to see just a glimpse her. Love drives you crazy Mantu. You will know only when you fall in love," Rama said. Oh he knew all about the craziness of love! Hadn't he climbed the pipe in the middle of a stormy night to Amaya's room just to watch her sleep? He knew all about the desperate longing of love. "Fine!" Mantu sighed. "But if we get caught, you will have to do all the explaining. Okay?" "Done! Come on!" Rama said excitedly as they sneaked their way towards the room where the ladies' function was being held.

They tried the windows but all of them were closed. The door was locked too. From inside, they could hear giggles and laughter and chatter. Soon, someone started singing and they could hear the shuffling of feet that sounded like somebody was dancing. Rama reached onto the door frame and hoisted himself up to peak through the window on top of the door that was ajar. "Rachita ji! She looks so pretty!" Rama said wistfully. "Amaya dances pretty well eh? I wonder if Rachitaji will dance?" Rama said. At the mention of Amaya's name, Mantu's heart picked up speed. Now he wanted a glimpse of Amaya as well. He couldn't hoist himself up the way Rama had. That would make it too obvious. He quietly tiptoed towards a window nearby and tugged at it. It probably wasn't bolted all that well, because it opened. He opened the window just a little so it wasn't too obvious that he was watching. Right in the middle of the room, dressed in a yellow salwar suit, Amaya was dancing as if she had not a worry in the world. Her smile lit up the entire room as she twirled and danced to "Morey Piya." Her face would catch a faraway expression once in a while during the performance and Mantu could not help but wonder if she was thinking about him.

Amaya danced her heart out as the beats of the song thumped in her veins. She was unmindful of all the people watching her. In her mind, it was just her and Mantu and she was dancing for his eyes only. How would it feel, she wondered, to dance for him and watch the look of love and desire in his eyes as he watched her. Would he tease her? Would she tempt him? How would it be to bear that painfully sweet foreplay they'd engage in before they both gave in to the fire burning within?

She was brought out of her reverie when Jazz and Neeti tried to put haldi on her. Amaya dodged them and ran towards the door. Mantu quickly tried to pull Rama away from the door but he was too late. The door opened and Amaya's haldi covered hands landed right on Mantu's white shirt. Mantu looked up from his shirt to her and was immediately lost in those beautiful bright eyes of hers. Beads of perspiration lined her forehead and trickled down, tracing tempting paths down the side of her face, the column of her throat and disappeared into the neckline of her salwar. Mantu had trouble focusing on all the commotion around him as the girls took Rama and him to task for sneaking into their function, because he was constantly drawn to the doe-eyed look Amaya was giving him.

"Mantu.. Say something," Rama tugged at Mantu's arm and Mantu finally tore his gaze away from Amaya. "Huh?" he asked Rama dazed. "Say something na Mantu? Save us!" Rama urged. "Arey! What will Mantu say? Now that you have sneaked into our girls only function, you have to bear a punishment," Jazz said and Jazz, Neeti and the rest of the girls dragged Rama and Mantu into the room. "Well, there is one thing I don't quite understand.." one of the girls spoke up, "Rama jiju came to see Rachita didi. But why is Mantu Maharaj here?" "You silly! Who is next in line here huh? Amaya. Mantu must be here to see Amaya. Right Mantu?" another girl chipped in and all the girls started laughing. Mantu stole a glance at Amaya and saw a blush creeping up her cheeks as she looked away.

"What punishment do we give them?" Neeti asked. "Lets get their haldi done!" Jazz replied. "What? No! Please! I just came with Rama. I have no other role in this. Please let me go," Mantu begged. "No! No! No!" the girls said, closing in on Rama and Mantu and making them sit in the middle of the room. "Rachi di, you have to apply haldi on Rama jiju and Amaya, you can put haldi on Mantu, okay?" Jazz said as she dragged both her sisters towards the boys.

Rachita and Amaya sat in front of Rama and Mantu respectively. Amaya took handfuls of haldi and smeared it on Mantu's face while he made silly faces. Rama beamed happily while Rachita smeared haldi on his face.

"Now that you have made both of us look like jokers, please let us go," Mantu pleaded with the girls and tried to make his way to the door, tugging Rama along but the girls stopped them again. "No! For the punishment to be truly fair, you need to dance now," Jazz announced. "What? Dance? Why?" Rama asked. "You watched our dance performances sneakily. Now its only fair that you dance for us! Or else we'll call Nanaji and tell him how you gatecrashed our function!" Jazz replied. The music came on and the boys were left with no choice but to dance. The girls circled around them and joined them in their dance. At some point, Rachita and Amaya had been thrust into the middle of the circle to dance with the boys too.

Amaya was about to trip and fall but Mantu was quick to react and caught her just in time. For a few moments, they forget about all the people and festivities around them and were lost in each other's eyes. Just then a sharp knock sounded on the door.

"Amaya, Jasmine! Aren't you done with this singing and dancing yet?!" It was Gajanand Chaubey's voice.

Amaya immediately stepped away from Mantu and Jazz started to panic, "Oh no! Rachi di! Amu! Its Nanaji! If he sees Rama jiju and Mantu here like this, he is not going to like it. What do we do now?" "Amaya!" GC's voice sounded again. "Rachi di, lets sneak out through the side door and take the boys outside and we'll head to your room from there, okay? Jazz, if Nanaji asks, tell him that I have taken Rachi di to get ready already, okay?" Amaya instructed Jazz and Rachita as she caught hold of Mantu's hand and led him away.

***

Rama and Rachita were a few paces ahead of Amaya and Mantu as they sneaked out of the room. Rachita led the way for Rama holding his hand in hers. Amaya was about to say something but Mantu heard footsteps approaching, so he closed her mouth with his hand and pulled her to a side and hid inside the storeroom. The sudden pull made Amaya stumble and fall onto Mantu as they landed with a thud on the floor of the store room. "More ghee. I swear they are going to use up all the ghee in all of Benaras for this wedding," they heard Rudra's muttering as he stepped into the store room. Mantu pulled Amaya closer to him and tried to hide in the shadows behind the door. She was terrified they would get caught any second and clutched tightly onto Mantu in fear.

"Rudra! Where are you? We need more chairs for the guests, beta!" they heard Sneha calling out to Rudra.

"I'm coming!" he replied. "I've been turned into a servant now," Rudra muttered under his breath as he picked up a tin of ghee and left. On his way out, he locked the room behind him.

Mantu heaved a sigh of relief when Rudra left and was immediately aware of Amaya's soft, warm being enclosed in his arms. Rather hesitantly and awkwardly, he moved his arms off of her. As they moved away from each other, Amaya's face rubbed against Mantu's. Once she was out of his embrace, Mantu sat up to put some distance between them. That is when he noticed that the some of the haldi from his face was now on Amaya's. A weird sense of joy filled his heart as he took in the sight of the haldi on Amaya's face. It was almost as if they had had a shagun ki haldi of their own in that moment.

Amaya got up and made a move towards the door when Mantu caught her hand and stopped her. Amaya looked at him wondering what he was up to. He came closer and gently caressed her cheek and Amaya felt like her nerve endings were being set on fire at his touch. He lifted his finger and showed her the haldi. Amaya touched her cheek and realized she had haldi on her cheek. Mantu's haldi. And her heart did a little cartwheel in her chest. She hoped Mantu would not see the heated blush crawling up her cheeks as she tried to rub away the haldi on her face. Mantu offered her his handkerchief and Amaya took it.

When Amaya was done, Mantu took the kerchief back from her. "I can wash it and give it back," she said softly. "There is no need for that," Mantu said. He then proceeded to wipe the haldi on his face off using the same kerchief. It was a very normal thing to do, but to both of them, it felt like such an intimately binding act, the mixing of their haldi. When Mantu was done wiping his face there was still some haldi left on his chin. Without thought, Amaya lifted the edge of her dupatta and went about cleaning it and Mantu stood watching her with his heart in his eyes.

When she was done, Amaya turned to the door once again, only to find it locked. "Its locked! What do we do now?" she asked panicking. "Call Jazz and ask her to come open the door," Mantu said. "I don't have my phone with me! I left it in the other room when I was dancing," Amaya replied. "Wait, I'll call her from my phone," Mantu said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. "My phone? Oh no.. The battery is dead.." Mantu said staring at the blank screen of his phone. "Is there a charger here somewhere?" Mantu asked. "It's the store room Mantu! Where will we find a charger here?" Amaya asked. "What do we do now?" "I don't know. I guess we will have to wait till someone comes and opens the door," Mantu replied. Dejected, Amaya sat down by the door.

"Rachitaji! Why are you in such a hurry?" Rama whispered as Rachita walked ahead of him to show him the way outside. "I need to get you out of here before someone spots you!" Rachita whispered back. "But Rachitaji, we've gotten some private time. Don't you think we should make use of this time?" Rama asked. Rachita stopped and looked at Rama at that, "What do you mean?" "I mean," Rama said, backing Rachita against a wall, "maybe you should say those three words to me that you haven't said yet and I've announced to the world." Rama had such a naughty smile on his face, Rachita couldn't help the smile that came to her lips but then she was reminded of what had happened between them and of her past, so her smile faltered on her lips. "Rama.. This isn't the time or place," she tried to say. "But it is.. Its just you and me and no one else. What could be a better time for you to tell me that you love me?" Rama asked. Rachita almost wanted to tell him that she didn't love him, that she was marrying him for the sake of her family and that she needed time.. To accept him, to accept the relationship they were about to be tied in. How much did they even know each other? But she was afraid to say any of it, for the fear that the wedding might get called off and she could not let that happen anyhow. But how could she tell him that she loved him when she didn't? "Rama, I've agreed to get married to you. Doesn't that say it all? Do you really need to hear the words to know for sure?" she asked instead. "You are right. But I still would like to hear those words," Rama persisted and Rachita started to get uncomfortable. "Wait! Before I forget, I need to give you something," Rama said reaching into his pocket. He pulled out the bracelet he had bought to propose to her and Rachita felt all the more uncomfortable. "There.. Is.. There is no need for this.." Rachita said. "What do you mean there is no need for this? Of course there is. I bought it for you with so much love. It's a symbol of my love for you. I understand that you did not have feelings for me then. It wouldn't have been right for you to accept my gift of love when you did not have feelings for me. But now.. Now things are different. We both love each other, truly, madly, deeply. I want you to wear this so that whenever you miss you, you just have to look at it to know that I am never far away from you," Rama replied as he caught hold of Rachita's hand and made her wear the bracelet. "It looks so beautiful on your wrist. Like it was made just for you. Just like me," Rama said and he raised her hand towards his lips and kissed her hand softly. "Rama!" Rachita yelled at him as she pulled her hand away and turned away from him. "What happened Rachitaji?" Rama asked, "I was only expressing my love for you. Why are you getting angry?" "I.. I.. I just can't.. I can't do this.." Rachita said as she ran away from him, leaving a confused and dejected Rama behind.
