I think you may possibly be right...the dialogue by Taani did confuse me and it was in past tense...if she was with Onu, she wouldn't have used that sentence...you don't think its a flashback within a flashback do you? Because obviously if she's telling the story in the asylum, Onu could not have died because hes right there...I'm confusing myself now.
I really hope Onu doesn't die only because it would kill me if he died...it was torture enough for me to watch Onu torture Taani with his divorce talks in the beginning of today's episode so I guess for the reason that I don't want to see him die but you're right that it would immortalize their story if he did...but they would have to do it properly and build up their love to the highest point before bringing in a death sequence...if he's going to die, it better be the very last episode because I would hate to watch Taani try to survive without Onu, like watching Heer without Prem 😭
