BABYSITTING
Kunj glanced up as he heard the faint sound of giggles from far away and saw a woman walking with a young child through the park.
As he peered at her through his sunglasses he saw that she had luscious brown hair cascading down her back and she was dressed in a flowy pink skirt with a brown v-neck t-shirt.
He shook his head and bent down to the email he was reading on his phone.

"Naina! Naina ki baachi!" A woman was seen rushing after a little girl, her shirt dripping with sand.
The little girl, Naina stopped and stared in the eyes of the woman. "Sorry Maasi,"
She felt herself melt. Usually Naina would just call her by the nickname everyone else used for her and so whenever her she called her that; everything she did good or bad, was all forgiven.
The woman sighed and smiled. "Theek hai. Go play quietly in the sandbox okay? I'll be on this bench over here." She points in the right direction before leaving her in the sand box.
"Okay," Naina replied smiling happily before jumping straight into the sand box.
"I hate sand," the woman muttered to herself as she aired out her t-shirt without being too obvious.
She sat herself down on the bench and pulled out a tattered copy of one of the Harry Potter books and buried her nose into it.

"What's your name?" A little girl came up to Naina and asked.
"Who are you?" Naina frowned.
"I asked first," The slightly pudgy girl contradicted.
Naina made a face. "My name is a body part,"
"What?" The other girl asked.
"My name's Naina." Naina replied as she rolled her eyes filling buckets with sand.
"That means eyes!" The other girl clapped.
Naina nodded. "What's your name?"
"I'm Gungun."
"That's a pretty name too." Naina smiled as she handed her bucket of sand to Gungun.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Twinky!!!!" Naina shouted.
"Boyfriend!!!!" Gungun yelled equally loud.
Kunj and Twinkle both ran towards the sandbox and Twinkle found herself tripping on a rock and knew she'd be colliding straight with the concrete but felt relieved as two arms quickly snaked around her waist catching her upright in the process.
"Are you okay?" She heard a velvety voice ask.
Twinkle blinked her eyes unsure of who she saw was true or not. The person in front of her looked like a Greek god. No joke. She blinked a few more times till she realized he was here to stay. "I"uh yes." She mumbled quickly as she pulled herself up using his shoulders. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault," He gave her a smile that could melt glaciers in the Arctic. Then he bent down to the kids' level and Twinkle did the same.
"Kya hua bachha?" He patted Gungun's head.
Twinkle looked at him. He looked too young to be a father. And even if he wasn't what were you planning on doing about it? She mentally cursed herself as she looked at Naina. "Kya hua Naina?"
"Isne mujhe maara!" They both shouted at each other.
Kunj and Twinkle quickly glanced at each other and Kunj signalled to her to take the kids away from each other first and so they both took them to opposite sides of the park.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Kya hua Naina?" Twinkle calmly asked Naina; her mind still occupied with Kunj. The way his eyes had looked when he helped her up; his bright smile. She couldn't stop thinking about him and it had only been a few moments apart. What was happening to her?
She could see Naina explaining the problem but her mind was still elsewhere. She quickly glanced in his direction and saw him fully engrossed with the other little girl. His daughter, she told herself sadly. No point thinking about him anymore.
What she didn't notice was Kunj's constant gaze in her direction. That was the same girl he had seen walking into the park earlier. Her voice was so melodious he found himself wishing he could hear it over and over. He admired the way she was so concerned for the little child. She is probably her daughter; they had the same eyes. And didn't she call the child's name Naina? Makes sense naming her after the quality they shared. He stopped staring in her direction and looked back at Gungun who was close to crying. "Ssh," He hugged her close to him and then pulled her away. "Meri girlfriend ko kya hua?"
Gungan rattled off everything to him and he was half listening, he still couldn't stop looking at the woman. She was still listening to her daughter and finally he thought it was best to clear it up.
"Gungun, if I take you near Naina again, promise not to fight?"
Gungun sniffled and then nodded. "Woh meri dost hai,"
Kunj smiled and picked her up in his arms, kissing her cheek softly. "Meri achhi bachhi ho na?"
Gungun nodded as Kunj walked towards the other two on the bench.

"Dekho Naina, they're coming towards us and I want you to behave alright? Warna tumhari mummy ko sikhayat karungi,"
Naina frowned and pouted as Twinkle got up to greet Kunj and Gungun.
"I'm really sorry about Naina," Twinkle said quickly. "I think both the girls just started arguing over the bucket na?"
He nodded and smiled. "It happens," He let Gungun down and put out his hand at Twinkle. "I'm Kunj."
"I'm Twinkle""
"No. She's Twinky," Naina interrupted.
Twinkle smiled and nodded. "But my friends and family call me Twinky."
"He's my boyfriend," Gungun said happily.
Twinkle looked at Kunj with a peculiar look on her face. "Boyfriend?"
"I'll explain," He rolled his eyes. "Will you girls play nicely now?"
Both the girls nodded and ran off towards the slides.
"Shall we?" He gestured to a nearby bench.
Twinkle nodded as she sat down on the bench. "I'm surprised she calls you boyfriend,"
Kunj laughed and shook his head. "She actually heard it on some tv show and from then on she calls me that. She doesn't even call her father daddy or anything, she calls him jaanu, because that's what her mother calls him."
Twinkle just keeps looking at him. Her father? Wasn't that Kunj? She shook her head. "Aren't you her father?"
"Me? What gave you that idea?" Kunj asked.
"I don't know," Twinkle shrugged, a tiny blush creeping onto her cheeks. "I don't know. You called her bachha all sweetly. I just assumed I guess."
Kunj just smiled at her. Girls and guys with kids. Always the same conclusions. He finally decided it wasn't safe to venture outside when he had Gungun with him. A part of him felt relief though, knowing that maybe if Twinkle knew he wasn't married and didn't have a child"Wait Kunj! She has a child. She might be married, Kunj sighed as he took in the sudden relief on Twinkle's face.
"Something wrong?" he asked finally.
Twinkle quickly shook her head. "No"I just can't believe I assumed you were married. I mean if I can bring my friend's kid out to play than surely you can as well."
"Your friend's kid?" Kunj repeated.
Naina wasn't her daughter? What was happening today? It was officially the day of misunderstandings. There was only one thing he understood and that was the happiness his heart felt when she had said that Naina was her friend's kid. That meant he actually had a chance now. He looked back at her and smiled.
"Haa kyu?" Twinkle asked. "Wait, don't tell me. You thought she was my daughter too didn't you?"
Kunj shrugged and smiled sheepishly. "You both have the same beautiful brown eyes."
Twinkle looked down and smiled to herself. He thought her eyes were beautiful! She looked back at up and smiled at him. "So that was a weird scenario na?"
"Very weird," He agreed as he ran his hand through his hair. "Uh"I know this is kind of sudden, but would you like to have dinner with me sometime?"
Twinkle was surprised. She hadn't expected him to ask so directly and so suddenly but then she decided today was a day of assuming and speculating anyways; might as well give this a try as well. "I'd love to,"
Kunj was elated. No...He was something more than that. It had been ages since he felt this way about any girl and that feeling had him smiling from ear to ear. "Want to give it a go on the swings?" He leaned lower to her and whispered.
She took one look at him and grinned. "As long as I get to go first!"
She jumped up and ran to the swings just as he ran after her. An afternoon in the park sure had its plus points for both of them.
